No, you can get as many as you want. Once I got 18. 🆒

I made a small mistake on the last post, just ignore it.

Actually, one of the fastest ways to make money, after you've saved up enough from missions, is to do the Capella to Darkstar trade route. Hop into a Defender for the speed, hire six freighters, and have fun. Alternatively, pirating pirates is always fun, they have more money than the Luxury Liners in Capella, which has always seemed weird to me. Wouldn't a Luxury Liner be filled with wealthy people who have tons of dough?

A Defender v. Lightnings? You have to pay to hire escorts. Buy an Argosy instead.

You don't fight the pirates, you run from them. That's why you use the Defender, it's the fastest thing you can get. Also, if you hire 6 light freighters, you're moving a lot of cargo, and you make a lot of money, very fast. Not everything in EV is about blowing things up, trade routes aren't as fun as blowing things up, unless you like running from pirates with the risk of being easily blown up, which happens to get pretty exciting sometimes. With this method, in about half an hour to an hour, you can be in a fully outfitted Kestrel, figure an additional half an hour of mission computer missions before that to get your hands on some capital, and that makes things very fast.

Put some speed into an Argosy, Defenders stink.

Destroyer E is the name of my ship and the name has a good meaning.

Using a single Argosy, with its 130 tons of cargo, would be pretty pointless on a trade route, it would just take too long. Whereas a Defender with 6 Light Freighter escorts gives you 901 tons of cargo space. Even if you hire the Light Freighters while having an Argosy, you'll end up shaving money off your profits. The three day jumps of the Argosy means you're paying for 3 days everytime you jump, as opposed to with a Defender, you're only paying for one day each jump. The initial cost of the two ships is also important here, as the majority of your cargo will be carried by the freighters, so your ship's cargo space is irrelevant. The important thing to remember with trade routes is that you want to avoid any fight, not get into one. Your freighter escorts can't take much damage, so speed is the primary concern.

I am just saying that you should get a stronger ship with more than 1 ton of cargo space to do a cargo run.

I thought the whole purpose of trading was to make money, but why bother if you already have over 1 and a quarter million credits floating about? 😛

And it'll still take 3 days to jump thus wasting you money.

there is a difference between two types of speed.

THe first is the normal speed. Its those numbers in the ship stats. Bulk freighters are slow, defenders are fast. A rebel cruiser is faster then a confed cruiser.

There is another type, which is not directly stated anywhere, but makes far more important when tradeing with hired escorts, and completeing missions.
This is your (b)hyperspace speed(b).

Hyperspace speed is measured in days. there are 3 possible options (1 day, 2days, 3 days)for it in nova. It is baised off mass. Heavy ships take 3 days, light ships take 1 day, and one or two ships inbetween take two days. If you have a density scanner, ships with small radar blips are 1 day ships. The courier is the biggest cargo 1 day jump ship, and is better then a defender.

That depends, you can outfit a clipper to make a bigger cargo hauler than the courier

The reason I prefer the Defender for my ship to use when trading, is for two main reasons, speed, and cost. I'd rather not spend anymore money than absolutely necessary when upgrading it, since I'm not using it for any combat. It's great for running away, which definitely isn't the Courier's strong point, even when you upgrade its speed. Courier's speed is 250, add 150 onto that with the engine upgrade and you've got 400. Defender's base speed is 500, and costs almost half what the Courier costs. In the end it boils down to preference though, and the important factor in trading is days in hyperspace.

you can make a courier hold 70 tons cargo, thats more then anything else 1 day can I believe.

And if you dont like the cost or speed of a courier, the scoutship is an excelent inbetween. less cargo then a courier, but also cheaper then ether the other two, more fuel, speed in between, and stronger shields.

If you are going to do tradeing from as soon as possible, the scoutship is better then a defender as you start sooner, and you can haul cargo in it to make a profit until you can afford your escorts.

My first two krestels I ever saved up for I did through tradeing runs. I was so stupid I had a light freighter and 6 lt freighter escorts. made about 40k per trip on the stupid route I had, I thought it was great. Then I discovered disabling and boarding and never traded again (except for cashing in on cargo loot)

Without cheating, Joe , your ship couldn't destroy an unarmed shuttlecraft.

Get off the school computer and get back to work.
