EVGE add-on question

What is so great about EVGE? I've had EV (registered) and EV:O (unregistered and to this point not even played haha) for a while now, but I just recently started checking out the downloads...I read this thread and I was wonderin why everyone loves this patch.

If I d/l it will it alter my current progress in any way? Or does it just add on stuff to my current game (like more ships/missons/etc)?

EVGE being a large expander for EV, will not hinder your current stuff. It changes things on a few ships, but nothing major. Mostly it just adds and does not subtract.
If you havnt DLed it and played through it you're missing out big time.

Well I just got Galactic Scourge, and I'll be checking it out soon. I'll hafta d/l Game Expander too I guess =P

Are there any known conflicts with running both patches at the same time?

Generally, if a plugin is big, it's incompatible with most others. Usually its a better idea to start different pilots with different plugins.
As for what's so great about EVGE, well, I wouldn't say it's the best plugin out the (Pale gets that spot in my books), but it does add a lot of color and size to the relatively small EV universe.

PS-Welcome to the boards! If you have a powerful enough Mac, you may want to check out EVN as well, it's newer, slightly more complicated, but has got a lot of neat features, though not as many good plugins as EV/O yet.

Thanks for the welcome, and I read the readme files associated with the plugins and answered my own question hahaha...

I'll wait for the EV:N port to the PC, since I don't have a Mac haha. I'm runnin an emulator to play EV and EV:O...but I can't wait tp play EV:N!

You can play Nova on emulator too, it just does suck in speed for carrier combats. Buy OS 8 (for example, eBay), upgrade to 8.1, and get Gamma Ramping patch.

EVGE.....Ahhhhhh. I think that sums it up for EV greatness.

Hahah just noticed, I registered 3 years ago and only gave 20+ posts.....nice eh? 😉 Ah well, I've said pretty much all there is to say bout EV methinks.

Thanks for the info, but I'll just wait for the Windows port. It'll be easier than dealing with slowdown and stuff like that. Besides, I never REALLY got into EV till recently, so I wanna play the hell outta that first 😛

As MickeyBI said, large plug-ins like this are not compatible w/other plug-ins, particularly large ones.

Also, in response to the post I quoted, I just wanted to point out that it's a very good idea not to use old EV pilot files with EVGE; enough has changed in the plug-in that a new pilot is preferable (in some cases it makes things more challenging, and also, you want to make sure all the pers's show up).

So now I just wonder, does anybody still play Escape Velocity, and would anyone actually play this add-on if I finally got my thumb out of my rear-end and finished it? If there's no longer any interest, it'd be pointless to put more time into that, long dormant project.

IMHO, yours and Ben Singely's (Pale} are what MacAddict would call "Freaking Awesome" plugs. 😄 I would try to be among the first to d/l and play it. There would be alot of interest and anticipation for this. Mike

That rating is given to only a few, the best of all. Probably if they did review plug-ins I could see this myself too.
