Argh! [RoP problem]

I'm doing the Faction mission string... and am currently on the mission that requires me to dominate Onedin. When I jumped into the system, I accidentially landed on the station instead of hailing it (I went close to it so I could zap the first ships out with my particle array). Anyways, it displayed some mission text, the troops my ship was carrying were gone... but nothing after that. Going in the bar did nothing, and Onedin isn't dominated. Also the escorts assigned to help me with Onedin are gone... what should I do?

Wait, is this the mission that had a big, bold note saying "NOTE: DOMINATE ONEDIN BEFORE LANDING ON IT!"? It is, isn't it? 😛 Sorry, but you're screwed, as far as I know. All you can do now is laugh at yourself. Good luck in the future. The other string is better, anyway.

Actually, I don't recall seeing such a note... I'm thinking this problem may have a quick fix, if somehow the mission bits for the Masters and Slaves series of missions can be cleared. As far as I can tell, the only way to do that is to add a new mission to the RoP plugin using EV-Edit... and I'm not sure how to do that.

EV-Edit is very buggy. I will recommend starting over.

Use Res-Edit or Mission Computer.

Thanks. OK... I got Mission Computer, and edited 3 missions that were already in there (unimportant cargo missions so that I wouldn't mess with the storyline) so that I could clear every bit in the Masters and Slaves string. All it did was make the map screen take a LOT longer to open, as far as I can tell... any help? Also, I tried opening one of the other two RoP files with it, and it said it couldn't copy em to the cache dir...

Cant help you with the map taking a lot of time to open, probably someone else wants. But for not being able to copy to cache directory, it was said by David Arthur (the developer) himself on the Dev. Corner that it meant you dont have enough disk space. It copies the whole plug to disk instead of memory to guard against corruption.

First, make sure you have plenty of disk space before using MC since it works on copies of the file, not the original. Secondly, did accepting those missions allow you to start the string over?

2 things: First, I'm using MC with BasiliskII, and I put it and the files I want to edit on an empty 200 MB drive.

Second, it doesn't matter if I can do the missions if it always takes 2 minutes to open the map screen. Such a bug renders the game unplayable, as even when I open it I can't click on other systems. Removing the edited missions and restoring the original RoP files took out the map bug.

I've never had this map issue you describe. It may be an error introduced in by the emulator*. If you send me the mission bits set by that mission string, right up to the mission after the one you ruined, I'll whip up a quick plug to clear em for you and send it right back.

  • I never trusted those damn things.

Are emulators that unreliable? I thought they could be a good solution when you dont have a Mac, but want to play.

Some people on the Dev Board have complained of them having odd effects with plug-in creation, occassionally asking us to check if a bug is emulator related. My experience says they work fine to play, but development (which includes reverting save files and fixing bugs) is less certain.
