I'm on a the mission to escort the confed convoy through Risa...The Light freighters refuse to follow me, and keep getting blown up b/c the Kathoon system where they reside happens to be a rebel system. Also, in an earlier mission, a confed frigate failed to follow me from jump to jump. They ARE registered as escorts.

Yes, version 1.0.5f. I am playing on Basilisk II (mac emulator), but I've done it before without any problems, so I don't think that's it.
They aren't supposed to follow you then, as they may not be told to in the mission.

The mission says to rendezvous with them in the Kathoon system and take them to propus. They are mission assigned escorts, and they show up in green. When I jump, they don't follow me. The same happened with an older mission. I might need an older version of EV so if anyone has one please let me know.
I'd suggest just going to Propus and seeing if you can get the mission rewards without having them follow you. That would make life easier, wouldn't it?
Also, in response to your other thread, I doubt anyone has previous versions, and I doubt they would work better than 1.05. Updates usually (hopefully) remove bugs, not introduce more.

The freighters have never jumped with me. Just go to Propus and the thread will continue from there.
