The cool part about taking over planets, is that if you get tired, you can jump out, land, get some rest, come back to the game, go back, demand tribute again, and the ships you destroyed will be substracted from the force sent out this time! So, you can just pound Sol slowly and surely over weeks, and you'll get it without going insane!
At least, I think this is true...

It doesn't work. I tried that many times against Ruby, but the ships never ended. I must've destroyed enough ships to go from harmless to ultimate right there.

No, I think the planets replenish the defence fleet every time you land/exit the system.
I almost took over Sol. I don't take over independent planets much and NEVER rebels.

How do you know you almost took over Sol did you count?
I tried it around two times. I did take over Stardock Alpha, (I think or maybe it was Luna) but Luna.. I spent a WHOLE hour trying to take over. Besides, they only had gunboats and patrolships and in a second I usually could destroy around five, so I THINK I almost took over. I think I did take over Stardock Alpha once though. But it's almost impossible.

Stardock Alpha and Earth have the same ships and amount of ships protecting them, is you can take over Stardock Alpha you can take over any of them.
Mars and Luna are the two planets in the system that have junkboats and patrol****s as defense. Stardock Alpha and Earth have fed faggots and fed boozers.

For the difficult systems I have my Attack Fleet of seven Rebel Cruisers, including the flagship (as in mine). For the weaker systems (independent/pirate) I have dominated in a Rebel Destroyer or a Corvette or a Rebel Cruiser. All of those were w/o any escorts, or at least no really good ones; such as a few lightings or rapiers or even argosies.

Yes, it does work. If you don't believe me, try attacking a planet with a small defense fleet. Wait until they run out of ship. Jump out, then back in and demand tribute, it will work.
