You can only get those bays through plug-ins, and only two beam weapons w/o plugs. The two without using plugs are the tractor beam and the particle beam, which can't really be compared. But you can find more in many plugs, like Galactic Scourge, which I recommend highly. Yes, welcome. But I was under the impression that you could get the two bays without any plugs. I'm almost positive you can. I know the lightning bay only comes with the Kestrel, though.

You can purchase a bay for Hawks in the game, but not for the Defender.

Defender Bays aren't in the original, but in plugs they are. Same as being able to buy a Lightning Bay, only in plugs. I know GS has both of those, plus a few beam weapons.
