Weapon you work worst with.

Well then, Firebird. What would you say is your best/favorite weapons? If anything, for me (even though I like the torps and missiles), I happen to really like beam weapons (i.e. particle beam, peanut spoons (Quantumire), 20TWBeam Laser (EVGE) etc.) Make that Particle Beam (or other beam weapon) an unlimited weapon (Type = -1) with increased damage ratings and I can take out just about anything!

Same here, but I never used Javelin Rockets either. Their unguidedness, plus puny damage means being the lightest launcher in the game, having unlimited (999) of them, and being the cheapest outfit in the game doesn't be enough to use it.

back on topic(sortof). You can't dis' the bombs. The only downside i ever found was that they are free fall. i would rather they fire like a rocket than just crap them out, wait for the enemy to step on it, then run away laughing.

Insanity has its advantages

I am can use almost all weapons pretty well, but I am probably the worst at using heavy rockets. Those things move too slowly, have poor guidance, and are just plain annoying. I like the bombs, even though they require a large amount of space to store a decent quanity of them. They are fairly straightforward though, just drop one when being chased from behind. Make like you're setting up for a monty python, but drop a bomb instead of shooting, and watch the pretty fireworks! πŸ˜‰

Yeah, they're real fun to use, but IMO the most difficult weapon to use efficiently in the entire game.

Heavy rockets were quite difficult to use for me when I first started playing EV, but that was because I never used the Autopilot correctly. Now it's a breeze.

Heavy rockets are good. All you have to do is make sure you and the enemy a traveling in a straigt line ahead of you. Then hit the Autopilot and fire. πŸ™‚ Fighter suck and cost money! I can't keep them alive for 10 mins

Me, I prefer to stick to guns, missiles, and fighters. Heavy rockets just aren't my style, and when I use space bombs I usually miss or blow myself up in the process which is something I prefer not to do.

I don't care for any non-guided projectile weapons (i.e. javelins, heavy rockets...), but I do love beam weapons! I just bought the Weave Beam Cruiser (Empire). The x-ray laser is absolutely fabulous! My fav. tactic is to first take out the heavies using either torpedoes/missiles and the x-ray laser, then move off a bit and let the fighters/smaller ships come after me. When they get to me, I activate the beam and (no targetting needed) use either the right- or left-arrow keys to spin my ship. With a strong enough beam weapon, the beam acts like a scythe, taking out large amounts of fighters. I have to first make sure no friendlies are in the "area of destruction." Whenever I come into a system where a number of enemy ships are ganging up on a friendly/smaller number of friendlies, I like to go in and disable the heavies and/or wipe out a number of smaller enemy ships to make the battle somewhat more "even." I then leave the area or back off and let the friendlies finish the job (let them have some fun!) One thing I have a problem with is coming into a system where two enemies are battling it out (Confeds/Terrans vs Pirates/Raiders). Who do I help, if any? I make it a point to destroy any and all pirates. Of course, I could just wipe out every ship in the system (Confeds/Terrans and Pirates/Raiders). I could also let 'em battle it out and clean up afterward. BTW: I've been given the Astrodyne Outpost mission (take troops to Port Oread), yet, the troops never get off the ship! I also tried it by cloaking as soon as I launched from Palshife, and recloaking as soon as I reach Tiber system (if there are enemy ships in the area), then getting to the Port, uncloaking and docking in quick succession. So far, I have not been scanned, so why don't the troops get off the ship and continue the mission? Also, I have been given the "Find Mr. Big" mission where I have to go to NGC-6564 and kill the prototype Hammerhead carrier. I do this, get back to Palshife, and...nothing! What could be the problem?

Talking about beam weapons, I love the particle beam, especially when used with my Rebel Destroyer. It eats Frigates for lunch (shame I can only kill 1 frigate per fuel load :frown:)

The only problem with a beam weapon (or any weapon, for that matter), is accidentally hitting a friendly. I used Mission Control (Set) to set the misbits so it would "appear" as though I had done the missions. When doing the Astrodyne Outpost missions, in the regular EV you steal the tractor beam, right? In Empire, what you get is an EM beam which is a beam that, instead of tractoring things in, pushes them away! The Weave gave it to me, but I got rid of it when I sold my Beam Cruiser and bought the prototype Support Carrier (even though I dislike using fighters, the ship is worth it). It did come with the x-ray laser, which, IMHO, is much better than the alien disruptor beam that is available. Now I'm in the middle of helping the Weave conquer the Terrans. I've completed all the missions up to the "conquer Earth" mission. It seems that no matter what, during each battle, I apparently accidentally hit one of the ships flying with me, because, all of a sudden, some of them decide to turn red on me. Oh, well. The admiral should tell the captains of the ships that are to go into battle with me to let me hyper in first, to take out the majority of the defenders, then go in and finish the job. At the very least they could be warned that they could accidentally be hit by my beam, so, if you do, don't get mad! The one big problem with unguided missiles/rockets is the distinct possibility of accidentally hitting a friendly. That's why I like guided weapons. Ya know, at one point, I took the "MERCENARY WANTED" mbbs mission, went looking for the "small-fleet pirate ships," and found several ships in THX-1138 that had no graphics, just the targetting box to tell me where they were. They also had a shield level of -101, which went directly to 100 (that's +100) without going through zero, whenever I fired on them! The x-ray laser had no effect on them at all! I just left them where they were and aborted the mission. Weird, huh?

Just recently started a new pilot to rediscover EV...actually, more specifically, EVGE.

I've been having fun running around in my Rapier, which is decked out with plasma cannons (well, at first, proton cannons, which still do an okay job), a pair of javelin pods, a pair of missile racks, and a rocket launcher.

I've also been trying to break out of using Monty Python, and I've had a healthy amount of success against Corvettes and Kestrels, in that I'm able to just use the circling method to hit my enemy with a couple heavy rockets before going in for the kill -- and emerging victorious. Unfortunately, larger ships, namely big cruisers, are too stubborn for me to be doing that for hours, so I've still been doing MP for that.

But I must say I'm much better at using rockets now. And fighters (which I stayed away from in previous pilots).
