Have you ever wished you could make a real difference? Like supporting the wheels of commerce? Wish you could thwart the oppression of the (evil) Confederation? Are you a defender of truth, liberty and justice?
Join the Rebellion under the very able command of *** Captain Skyblade *** on the very-soon-to-be-launched (by Macavenger) webstory here on this board. Take a look....
Check out the current discussions on the thread entitled "A Plea For A Rational Webstory." You will see that the story is based on standard EV ships and tech, so you will learn it quickly. The Rebellion needs your help!
Fight the good fight! Beat the schemes of the Feds! Protect free enterprise! Join the Rebellion!

Seriously, the Rebellion could use plenty of extra players, as could the Confederation. The webstory is relatively easy to join and participate in, and it's all based on the original game.
I can see King Arthur coming on in and destroying this topic... heh.

Or you could just join the winning side, the Confederation.
And what is this 'scheming'? Seems to be something bizzare.

Ah well, defeat isn't so bad as long as you know you're fighting for the right cause. Bring it on.
See all this "whoofin" going on? Doesn't it sound like fun? It really is.
C'mon people! Join the story!
(subliminal message)The Rebellion is best. You want to join Skyblade's team. You would rather get sprayed in the face by a skunk than serve as a Confederate automaton.(/subliminal message)
And, um, just so everyone knows, I run the webstory in question, it's going to be the loosest major webstory since BFS 1, and open positions include Confed Admiral, Rebel Admiral, Lethe, Pirate, Mercenary, and a few decent Independent worlds are left too - most of the good ones have been slurped up, but you never know.

Being sprayed by a skunk isn't as bad as it's said to be. It can make inferior beings, such as Rebels, keep well away from you. Join the Confederation and continue to support loyal Astex Industries!

Which reminds me, Luke, you should be talking to SilverDragon, who's now the Confed leader, about what kind of technology and resources he's going to be sharing with you... You don't exactly have your own territory per se.
And, guys, I think this topic has pretty well shot it's bolt by now... let's keep it in the official unofficial discussion topic, ok? I don't really want to flood the board here.

I dunno, the Confederates seem to be more free spirited... 1)More powerful, don't have to worry much. 2)Could easily wipe out Rebellion in one crushing blow, but don't. 3)Rebels' lives are governed by war, Confederate citizens live in peace. In this case, the system seems to be run by hippies... Anyway, for these reasons and more, I sincerely believe that the Rebels are far WORSE than the almighty Confederate ruling power in the Galaxy.
Toodles.

I imagine you'd feel the same if you lived in Vietnam.

Ahem... Testing...1...2...3.
I am Lyat Corsair, President of the Confederation of Worlds, and I am here to address you over the matter of the Rebellion's blatant recruitment posters. I would like to remind you of several major factors that our dear "Kaptain Karl" of the Rebellion has apparently neglected to mention. But of course, that would be no surprise, would it? The Rebellion live off "neglecting to mention" certain facts about the current political situation.
The Rebellion claim truth, liberty and justice -- the very rights which our constitution upholds. Where is the Rebellion constitution? Nay, they have none, they instead run on "truth", "liberty" and "justice". Surely, their cause must be right! But of course, they must be fighting for truth, liberty and justice! My friends, it's time you opened your eyes to the wider world.
Years ago, the Confederation was forged on the brink of the destruction of mankind. Minor governments were being obliterated by the unprecedented power of the alien invaders in the Great War. The entire future of mankind rested upon the balance of those few months. Would we all lose? Let me tell you this, my dear friends, the very worlds that now form the Rebellion were against the formation of the Confederation -- these people wanted the aliens to destroy them. Draw your own conclusions; I am not a Rebel, I will not patronise you by having to explain every little thing to you in detail.
The Confederation of Worlds saved mankind. We called for the end of oppression, we called for the end of prejudice, we called for the beginning of a new age of man. We defeated the aliens - a force who originally were viewed as unstoppable. Independant militias fell without destroying a single ship - hope was gone. But justice was ultimately served - justice, which will always stand victorious. Against all odds, we destroyed the aliens, and freed mankind from destruction.
And then what happened, my friends? All these minor governments, the same governments that bathed in their own greed and "rights", declared their independance - they called it freedom. Oh, beautiful freedom - word with no meaning, scapegoat of all life. Do you want freedom? Do you want to be free? To be free from what, I ask you? What do you call "freedom"? Nay, you cannot claim this freedom and justice too, for freedom is the lack of justice, freedom is anarchy. I say not to you; "Be free", but I say; "Be just", for they are not one and the same, as the lying Rebellion have said to you. Be free as the pirates, and live in squalor, or be just and true. I do not make your decision - your decision is your own. Do I make catches in words to try and make you believe us? Do I use meanings of words which are not true, to make you care? Do I tell you what you think, what you do? No - I do not. Do as you will, for your life is your own, and in that belief, you will find more freedom than you would find in the Rebellion.
Do you want to make a difference, my friends? Do you want to support the wheels of commerce? Do you want to thwart the oppression of the Confederation? What oppression do you see? History repeats itself. The Confederation do not lie to you, the Rebellion do. All powers will eventually become "twisted", as some who bathe in self-pity might like to put it. Would you say "evil"? Listen to me. The Confederation have failings - all governments have failings. But all successful rebellions, forged through battle against a formalised government, become that too, and more so - those failings are amplified at thousand times. Now, the Rebellion may seem "just", but that is not so. Their cause is one that has been repeated many times in history, and where successful the "rebels" become a more "evil" government than the former.
The Confederation are no Utopia, but at least we let you be yourself.
Now... on a slightly more personal level, I find these posters offensive to everything my predessors and I have worked for - worked for, not fought for, because through fighting only oppression grows. Since I came into office two years ago, I have done everything in my capability to rid the Confederation of its false stereotype. This stereotype was never true, but I have worked to collapse it. And yet, every day, some self-proclaimed "Rebel activist" spreads word of the Confederation's "evil", and the work of months is ruined, and one again I must try to explain to mankind the dream of the Confederation -- justice, and true freedom.
To "Kaptain Karl", so codenamed for melodrama; you are an offense to the cause of the Confederation, and so by the laws you say the Confederation uphold should be tortured by whatever means suitable. This is not true. Surrender now, and you will be prosecuted and jailed for a maximum of fifteen years. Continue, and even then the sentence will only be one of life. There is no slaughter within the Confederation - you know well that we have tried countless times to bring this war to an end.
This is Lyat Corsair, President of the Confederation of Worlds. Thank-you for listening.

"Skyblade's team"? You have a leader who goes by a codename for "melodrama", so people might think you are a "just" cause, and you call yourself a "team"? A team, are you? Teams do not have justice, teams do not have rights, teams do not have goals beyond one -- victory.
And that is what you really are, isn't it? A team, playing to win, playing for power. You said it, not I.
And what is your evidence for the "Confederate automaton"? Who is using subliminal messages to recruit men, women and children for frontline warfare? Who is calling who "evil" without back-up? Who is telling who what they think, what they dream, what they want. If the Rebellion is anything like you, admiral, they are a group - a "team" - of hypocrites.

The Astex are our close friends. There is no imperial greed within our government - the Astex have access to all Confederate military technology, and its own resources. Due to the recent drawing up of Master Plan #3856, it may be ill advised if Astex are in command of a Confederate fleet, unless their hierarchy can be informed of the plan beforehand. I await word from them, especially whether or not they would allow Admiral RMA to commandeer their forces, under inspection of course, for #3856, which will result in the surrender of the Rebellion.
Well, wasn't that ... beautiful?
People of the galaxy -- you know the truth -- choose wisely. The Confederation's lesson in "revisionist history" stands, IMO, as a better Rebellion recruitment poster than anything we ourselves could compose. Read for yourselves Corsair's twisting of the facts. Thank you, Mr. "President". You have aided our cause tremedously.
(On second thought, I will respond to one little point. Notice the Confederation "justice" of trying, convicting and sentencing me all in a single paragraph. That's Confederation "justice" for you, for me, for all ... if you allow them to prevail.)
Down with the Oppressors! Down with the Confederation!
Stand for freedom! Join the Rebellion!
Originally posted by Kaptain Karl: **Well, wasn't that ... beautiful?
"Twisting of facts"? It is interesting that you can only answer one of the many points I have made -- and more importantly, that your "answer" is simply a little catch in how I arranged my speech. It has absolutely no relevance to my argument; your response is not just weak, it is pathetic. It is, I say, as pathetic as you are, and that over anything is the reason why I saw no reason to spend paragraphs explaining what how justice would be met if you were captured. If the only thing you can respond with is how long my comment on sentencing you was, quite frankly I think you should go into politics.
As for twisting of facts, those who are not your brainwashed followers tend to have this rather justified habit of liking facts. I'm sure you can come up with some -- I'll see you in a few months, okay?
And once again, you demand that people join your Rebellion. You give them no choice of the matter, you simply shout it, order it - "join the Rebellion!" What freedom.
