as far as the credit thing i say that we make ships an even number. like mantas would be 0.1M and Destroyers 2.5M that stuff. not like EVW with its 4.6785M ****. who wants to do all that math in order to buy ships? mostly no one. what does everyone think of my idea?

Well, Mac? Can I be an alien?
And please, please, someone clearly explain the dots system. I just don't get it.
------------------ The dyslexic agnostic insomniac: Stays up all night wondering if there is a dog.
I'm not sure that the points system works in the following way, but it should;
Govts should be able to build ships for industrial points only, and sell economic points to people in exchange for their industrial points. Economic points could be used for paying mercenaries, allies, debts, whatever, or buying industrial points. Thus economic points are the raw capital, but what's needed is industrial points to build stuff. Thus a govt with a lot of economic points and not much industrial points could go to a govt with a lot of industrial points -such as me- and pay me in return for some of my economic points. Mercenaries would get economic points, but would have to find a shipyard willing to sell them ship parts before spending them.
Is that how it works? Please tell me yes.

And we call this uncomplicated? I think there are also agricultural points...
Me = Jadzia How can we work trading? Here is my proposal: If you have a trade route agreement with another government, and you send ships on that route, here is what they generate:
12 Couriers = 1 Point 6 Light Freighters = 1 point 3 Bulk Freighters = 1 point
Depending on the comodity, you get either industrial or Economic points: Food, Lux Goods, Medical = Economic Points Metal, Equipment, Industrial = Industrial points
Your fleet must actually go to the planet(s) and wait there for a while, then come back, and the trading government must also agree to it for it to work. Also, no trading between your own systems, that's just cheap
Does this sound ok?

AAAaagh!!!!! Bari!!!
Have you even been reading all the posts about keeping rules to a minimum? And then you go and propose a whole new category of rule. Geez!
Work trading within the story with whomever you want to trade. Be reasonable and we'll accept it. (See the Common Sense rule. It covers trading ... as far as I'm concerned.)

Okay, we're obviously having problems with the "minimalist" concept. Let's try to be like the EVO board, just for once. We seem to have it mostly right over there. Basically, you do make a post involving doing one or more actions (diplomacy, trading, attacking, research), and if the mod has an objection, he'll revoke your post or make you edit it.
As for the concept of "dots" and "points" how about each player creates a fleet (relatively small) that sounds reasonable for the planet you're at, and a mod (I think Esponer is the most qualified here) decides whether it defies the laws of "common sense." You can then do whatever the hell you want with that fleet, including trading with it, attacking, or leaving parts of it behind for defense.
Sound okay?
I have to agree with Asriel. You guys always make EV stories about 5 times more complicated than they need to be.
Oh, btw, I want to be the aliens with Asriel.

I like it. Go minimalism!
Skyblade, just in case this thing really does start today, I'll be gone until at least 18:00 today. (Same thing Thursday.)
Go Rebels!
Good points, Macavenger -- and to clarify, I'm not for or against developed enhancements, I'm completely happy with the things I have already. As long as new fighter bays are allowed? A Rapier bay is a must! <grin> You're definately right about the Rebel-Confed balance. Personally, I think the Confeds just try to make profit out of you from their cost figures, whereas the Rebellion is willing to sell you their ships at near production cost.
I would suggest the following, if you care to listen:-
1 point for a fighter, 2 points for a medium ship and 3 points for a large ship be reconsidered. It is just asking to be screwed over - Rapiers make Lightnings, Hawks, Mantas and Patrol Ships useless, for example.
Several of the independant systems are boosted just a little. Some of them are so undesirable that despite importance the balance of conflict (Levo, Propus), they will not be chosen.
You set some rules on cost for the production of ships with modified armanent / outfitting. I want to be building Lightnings and Corvettes upgraded in a certain way, but I'm not evil enough to try and sneak it in with exactly the same cost.
Oh, on another note, U.E. Admiral took Jadzia.
spl_cadet: thanks, but I already have some plans with RMA. Which reminds me, will non-Confed, non-Rebel ships be considered Independant and thus allowed to go places? If my pirate ships have their IFF beacons set to "Pirate" all the time, I'm going to be stuck in a corner, and won't be able to move anywhere before I go into a fullblown invasion.
Asriel; me? Qualified? Uhh...yeah. <grin> I've only made four webstories, Asriel, and one of them, Apoc. Night, failed pretty spectacularly (damn ezboard, damn AradaPilot, damn them all! <winks> )

Ok, thanks for the heads-up.
I've got the general idea as far as the units are concerned now, Mac. I originally thought you were saying industrial and economic units were both basically credits.
We need to limit the use of independent governments... this is going to become a major conflict between single systems more than a war between the Rebellion and Confederation.

It's just that I don't think Mac, Skyblade, or Rak are particularly good story mods, and you seem to be a fairly consistently good mod.
No offense to you three, but you seem to have a way of really twisting the story to your advantage...

Yeah... I noticed when we made things fair for one side, the other always complained. No matter how we balanced the scales in the BFS series, we could never get the players to agree on anything. Don't start pointing at us as the troublemakers... we spent endless hours trying to keep things in line. The BFS participants were very hard to handle, which I'm sure Mac would agree with (looks at spl_cadet ;)).
