Woohoo. Some of you may remember me complaining about how my stupid domain wasn't resolving the new host... well, it does now. What does this mean? It means I can actually update the friggin' site now, and I have already. The entire site now boasts a new sidebar, and there are several things on the backend that make life easier for me (like heavy use of server side includes), which will make future updates even easier.
As for what this has to do with EV, this also means that I can update the (url="http://"http://www.evula.com/survival_guide/")Survival Guide(/url) with EVN content as soon as the game is released and I get some information flowed into the templates I've set up.
Plus, this board is kinda dead, so I figured I'd breathe a bit of life into it by starting a topic about me.
And for those of you (well, just ares1) who were wondering, yes, "the toy" is on it's way now that I have a new host. I've got 2 or 3 things to get done in the next week, and that is one of them (one of the others is the EVN Survival Guide, and the other... well, isn't ready yet).

Looks like you didn't get my e-mail about the fact that you can't disable and capture planetary defences. You can disable fighters from the bay of a defending ship in EVO.

Nice site Evula! I was wondering if you are going to add some hard to find plugs for EV? The reason why I am asking is because their are some plugs that I try to download and they never work. I believe one is called Paleshift. Another one I think starts with Q, but I forgot. Any suggestions?

Am I going to add some plugs? Well, no, since I don't have any plugs on my site other than the ones that I have done -- that list, by the way, will be growing soon, too, since I'm going to release Moderation soon, not to mention a few Nova-inspired plugins, and EVO and EVN versions of my 3D Target plugin.

On a largely unrelated note, is it possible to change my nick on the ASW boards without making a new account? IE, getting rid of ares1 without losing my karma and post count?

Yeah, I was going for ease of navigation when I redesigned the side. Its much better for me, too -- because it is a server side include, I only have to modify one file (creatively named "sidebar.txt") and the change goes into effect on every single page. I've already caught two problems in the includes and fixed it much faster than re-uploading 1000+ (no joke) HTML files.

EVula: Why do some of the pages have a different color scheme than others? Some have a white/blue color scheme, some have a black/blue scheme, and some even have a pinkish teal/black scheme. There seems to be no real method followed in picking the colors for each section - am I missing something, or did you just splash rather random colors around to add some variety and interest?

Hmm, the white/blue thing is the standard "this wouldn't look good on a black background" type of page (standard for all Humor and (I think) Misc sections, as well as what's left of the Advice section), green/black is the standard color scheme for all the EV stuff, and the Opinions section has it's own theme... pinkish teal doesn't sound familiar to me... take a snapshot and put it up somewhere for me or send it to me, I want to make sure it isn't my CSS belching.
Very nice update, I'm sure (not positive what's updated), but EVula, why aren't the tips up yet?

This isn't a suggestion per se, more like an offer.
I can help you out with the Survival Guides; the Mission Computer sections to be specific. If you want, I can put together extremely thorough and comprehensive mission guides. For every mission of consequence, the following would be included:
-Prerequisites for the mission. If the completion of another mission is necessary for the mission, it is listed (example: The Rescue Voinian defector mission needs the completion of the mission UE Shipping: Recruitment to be available, so that'd be mentioned). This would also include the minimum legal status necessary for getting the mission.
-Availability. Where the mission is available, and the probability of receiving it.
-Description. Helps the reader through the mission. This is done primarily through tips and hints, not through plot spoilers. Needless to say some missions need more explaining than others (the Destroy Alien Cruiser mission will get more space than an Astrodyne Outpost mission where all you do is take the marines somewhere, you see), but every one will get its due.
-Mission results. The payment given for the mission. I may also include what other missions & events are triggered by the completion of the mission.
Some of this is already started; on my other computer I've already done all this for the entire UE scenario in EV Override. Over time, I can continue the work to include all of EV and EVO. Perhaps Nova also, but if I do that one it will be last as it will be necessary to play through it a great deal before I can give extensive advice about it.
I've also been toying with doing something like this for Frozen Heart & Femme Fatale. Those don't really fit into EV/O/N though, so if you aren't interested in those I'll just make them and host them myself.
But if any of this does interest you, just e-mail me and let me know. I have a lot to take care of right now, but I'll be working on this at a steady pace. It's going to get done; the only question is whether you want it for your survival guide. I would want credit for my work, but nothing more.

Help with the EVO Mission Computer would be very appreciated, as I know very little about the game. I like how you've planned it out, but it would be better if it could stay constant with what I've got going for the other missions (wait until Nova is released, and you'll see a couple of EV mission pages when I update the Survival Guides).
Any other parts of the EVO Survival Guide that you could help with would be cool, too. I'm going to be swamped between working like a madman on the EVN Guide (and once that is more or less finished, I'll shift my focus to finishing the EV one), not to mention getting the "toy" working on evula.com, and getting a fourth site up and running. And on top of all this, I have a life. Yeesh.
While I don't think that I'll need your help with EV (I'm going to see if I can pass some of the more repetitive HTML work to my girlfriend), I know for a fact that I won't need help with Nova -- I've got a very knowledgable person helping with that, other than myself working on stuff.
As for credit, your content would get thrown in with the rest of the content, but you would get listed as a contributor for the Survival Guide on the (url="http://"http://www.evula.com/contact/")Contact Info(/url) page.

And, I'm starting a site of my own like yours. Hmm... I hope I made it not look like yours. The only part I saw that was the same was the > next to the words. I'm putting jokes and stuff on the site. I'm also putting cheat codes for Mac and PSX games on there. Right now, I have all of my PSX games on there (some being pretty lame :)), and two EV games. I will soon have more, once I do some searching around. I will put The Sims and other games on also. There will be Reviews also.
I will have jokes and insults.
And I will also have quotes.
If you visit my site, disregard the Advice subject, because I won't have that on there. I think I was looking at your site at the time, trying to make mine not look like yours too much. I also noticed that the Contact Info, Updates, and Copyrights subjects are the same also, but I couldn't help that.
I hope you aren't offended that some of these look like your site, for I tried not to make it like yours, but did use your sidebar for layout options for myself.
