For some reason, although I have sound on (in my system and EV) and Intro music on, the Intro Music doesn't work. When I open EV, it shows the splash screen and the menu, but no sound until I change the sound level. Any ideas? I have an iMac DV SE with OS 9.1, VM off.

Your EV sound level is probably set to "silent".

Nope, it's on quiet.
- Launch Escape Velocity, then go to "Set Prefs" and make sure that "Intro Music" is enabled, for is it not, no music will be heard. Something which you seem to have done. Also try with having the volume and "Normal" and see if that might make some difference to the Intro Music. - Go to the Apple-menu (in Finder this is) and chose Prefences (or whatever it says in English - I use Swedish) and then select "Sound Options" or similar, and look at all of the sound-options, and make sure that the volume is at 1 or higher. - Look in the EV-Sound-file, by using ResEdit, and see if the Intro Music is there. - Re-download and re-install Escape Velocity. - If none of above works, contact the Ambrosia Support.

I really like the music, does anyone from Ambrosia have a Hi-Fi version, or a longer version? I trust Ambrosia doesn't have an orchestra in the back room, so where's the music from? Thanks!
