Friendly Bugs

I was playing EV today, and realised that it was impossible to buy more than 999 Needle rockets (incidentally, 2 needle launchers can make a great rapid-fire secondary weapon). Anyway, I was doing the usual hunting-pirate-clippers-for-fun, stealing credits and ammo for the sake of it, when I discovered that I had 1049 needle rockets! OK, a pointles thing to say I know but someone, somewhere could find that handy....

And this is EV 1.0.5 too...sorry if this has already been mentioned before (which it probably has. Damn.). Are there many other interesting(?!) bugs in the game?

You can do the same thing with any secondary ammo. Buy 999, steal more and you get more!

Needle rockets are EVO, javelins are EV. 😛

Whoops. Sorry, I meant javelins :redface:!

You can do the same thing with any secondary ammo? Which ones - don't most have a certain mass to them?

Make a ship with 2000 tons of space, load up with missiles or torpedoes (whatever fits your fancy), and then raid other ships' ammo and build your projectile stocks over the maximum you can purchase.

Ahhh, I see 🙂 I've noticed the same can be done with a Confed Patrol Ship bay when boarding another Confed Cruiser. Is this possible with any other ships with bays?

One bug is if you go to the screen that tells you what missions you have, and press the abort mission button when you have no missions, the mission computers at planets will change the missions they have, and the spaceport bars will too;
the only thing wrong with this is that your escorts leave when you do this.

Oh c'mon, that doesn't sound very friendly now, does it?

Only useful if you aren't interested in the missions on the planet. It would be a great bug/cheat if the escorts didn't quit, but the only problem I have had with the loss of the escorts is when I had cargo and forgot about the bad part of the bug. Using it can really speed the game up.

OK, here's a very interesting bug: In my version of EV (1.0.2), if you buy a neutron blaster, take off, fire it a few times, then LEAVE IT SELECTED, and land and sell it again, when you take off, you'll find that it is still selected, and now it has a much higher fire rate - up to a hundred (I'm not joking) times faster than the usual rate. For a long time, I thought that this was what was meant by the forklift. I think that this works with all the other secondaries, but you'd soon run out of ammo! 😉

It's very handy to use the mission computer bug if you have a bunch of escorts and you've just sold all your cargo. It's much faster to fire your escorts by doing this than by hailing each one and telling them to go. Plus it costs a lot less since you don't have the added day from taking off.

The most useful money making cheat I've ever used (this is most useful in Star Wars which is fighter intensive and where tractor beams are common) is to steal fighters without even having the matching bay. All you do is fight a ship that has fighters. Disable the fighters and the ship, then pull the ship around with the tractor beam (you have to move fairly slowly but you can pull it). Pull the ship over the fighters and the fighters will disappear into their mothership. Now the ship has fighters in the bay, so if you board it, there's a chance that the fighters will show up in the "ammo" part of the boarding screen. Since fighters are weightless and since boarding lets you take unlimited ammo from a ship regardless of the maximum amount, you can easily pick up a few million credits' worth of fighters by just fighting one or two pirate Kestrels, or a Rebel or Confed Cruiser. Even if you can't sell the fighters it's okay because they'll contribute to the trade-in value of your ship.

One fun thing I would do (this was less of a cheat than a money-making endeavor) was to buy industrial supplies at Sirgil Starport when they were at the "lowest" cost of 5 credits per ton. Then I'd keep landing and taking off until the price went up to the "highest" cost of 440 credits per ton. That's about 17 000 profit if you're in a scoutship, so I'd eventually get enough money to hire light freighters and fill their cargo bays with the stuff. It was fun to try to see how long I could hold out, waiting for the price to change and all the while paying my escorts to stick around. Almost 400 000 profit if I had six light freighters all filled up, and that's not counting my own ship.

Another variant of the mission computer bug is to accept a mission, and abort it. Escorts will not leave (this is the only way to do the trick in Override :frown: )

What I like doing when I'm blasting pirates in my Kestrel is to disable lots of lightnings and adding them to my bay. This way you can have a Kestrel with tons of Lightnings, and they sell for almost a million each! (although if you're in a Kestrel you shouldn't be worrying about cash :p).
