All you EV-players since old-times, raise your hand If you've ever heard of the plug-in "Vorinth"
The plug-in was supposed to be developing the alien (now Voratee) stoyryline into a full-scale war. It was perhaps one of the most awaited plug-ins in the early days, as it appeard to be the most professionally created plug-in of its date. Unfortunately it was violently cancelled after a year of development and only a small preview containing four fighters from the unfinished plug-in.
My question is this: have anyone been able to salvage anything from this long lost relic? The preview comes to mind first of all, but I'm really hoping some of the old beta testers didn't trash what was finished. It would be a real treat
Thanks for your time - ghostdog

How nice of you to say that, since your antics in BfS have been a significant contributing factor to my not having time to work on it...
Among other things, of course. I do have a life outside of EV (scary, but true).

1. What antics? All of my argueing was in direct response to your attempts to cheat. Sheesh, you think I want to argue all the time? 2. Well, of course there's EVN but that isn't out yet.

1. Yes 2. Yes, well, there are other computer games out there, which I sometimes turn to when I feel the need for competition smarter than EV's AI, i.e. multiplayer.

I haven't heard that plug mentioned in a long time. I'm fairly certain that all traces of it are gone by now.. that has been a few years =P (Think New Republic)

Yes, I'm quite aware of the fact that I might not get any concrete results from this thread. However, with Nova being in production, I thought take a "drive down memory-lane" an dtrace EV to it's roots. When it comes to plug-ins "Vorinth", "Elite Forntiers" and the Star Wars-plug with gltiched graphics (was it called New Republic?) are the first to pop up in my head.
Given what you know, it's evident that you deserve a 'welcome back' to the Escape Velocity community. I still have the 'Vorinth Test Flight' plug-in on my hard drive - I'll see if I can post it somewhere people can get it, probably tomorrow. I'm afraid that's all the Vorinth-related material I have, but it's still rather interesting to look at.
By the way, the name 'Voratee' is in no way an official name for the Escape Velocity aliens. It's just their name in (url="http://"http://www.grand-novice.com/")Matthew Dailey's plug-in(/url).

The name Voratee seemed to fit the aliens well, so it has been copied and re-produced in other plug-ins, and seems to be becoming accepted as the "correct" term for the EV aliens.

Thank you, it IS good to be back. I've been scouting the forums passively on and off, following the news on EV and the Plug-ins, but I never really gave the community the devotion it deserves. I've been a fan though ever since the 1.0 version was released back in spring 1996. To me EVO was a slight disappointment. Not at all as clean and inspiring as the original EV, but I'm really looking forward to Nova!
Yeah, it would be great to get my greedy hands on that test flight, my old copy disappeard with alot of things after a computer upgrade and I also think it would be awesome if everyone else was able to share it. Nostalgia is all over me right now (note: have to learn to use the different smilies...)

I personally think that we shouldn't accept anything that doesn't come from the game as 'the truth' about the aliens, as that would hinder people's perspective on future plug-ins and stories related to them.

Elite Frontiers was released, and I have it too, although I don't know if it's still available to the public. As for the Star Wars plug-in, there were two big ones, 'Star Wars: A New Alliance', and Kris Hauser's 'Star Wars 2: The New Republic'.

Yes, EV Nova looks to be the follow-up that Escape Velocity deserves.

I do have it, so I'll probably put it up on (url="http://"http://davidarthur.evula.net/")davidarthur.evula.net(/url) tomorrow and leave it there for a few days unless any of its owners show up and complain. (I checked the Read Me file, and unfortunately there's no email address.

Okay, (url="http://"http://davidarthur.evula.net/vorinth.php")here it is(/url). I'm probably going to take it down in a few days, so if you want the Vorinth Test Flight, you should download it now.

Hey, I didn't say I accepted it as "the truth."

Downloaded. Thank you so much!
Say, ghostdog, were you around on the old EV WWWBoard before this and the Discboard? I don't remember the handle ghostdog... I came into the EV scene sometime early 1997. I'm not sure when, but I joined #ev around september 1997, and that was a few months after I had joined the webboards, so I suppose it was early to mid 1997. Maybe you had left by then.
Do you remember Gareth Spark's "Dash Riprock"? Do you remember Delta-V? Do you remember HellHunter, Jos Delbar (laer), Sparks2002, Natedog, Skyhawk.....?

I watched the old forums as they evolved (and devolved into flamezones before the new millennium as I recall), but I was never actually active back then. Only writing a few posts now and then. I started using the handle "ghostdog" about a year ago on a LAN, it was just after I saw the movie Ghostdog: Way of the Samurai... I'm a "fan" of ancient Japanese history. That's pretty much the story.
Like I said, I wasn't actually active, mosly browsing (leeching :D), but yeah Delta-V is a classic and I remember some fuzz about Jos and the forums, wasn't he responsible for the official site for a while? SkyHawk is another familiar name, but the others I don't remember. Dash Riprock is of course from the game, but otherwise, no connection in my brain...
It's actually rather entertaining being interrogated on EV-trivia. Or maybe it's just the attention, I don't know
A favourite 'are you really an oldie or are you just pretending' question is "What animal was in the picture at the top of the old WWWBoard?". Do you know?

There is a copy of it sitting on my desktop right now =P
Hmm, no I don't remember, but my guts tells me it was a spider climbing a cobweb... and it sounds logical.
Dash Riprock was not only a name in the game, but a story by sparks. The very first ev serial novel, and the very best in my opinion. Sadly, it was never completed. Also, the only site it is on (which I was going to link to) just now went down.
I actually don't remember the animal on top of the board. I remember HHunter being the queen of lesbians (heheh), and constant topics about who was a "veteran" or not, and #ev on efnet, and a whole lot of other crazy crap that went on.
Laer (jos delbar) was the admin of EV.com for a while. Then he was replaced by captain something, and then it went down. Skyhawk was the board admin, and lost the position to hhunter, just as I joined the boards. Skyhawk was writing some ev-based game called Xenocide, but I think that was cancelled.
What ever happened to ev.com? When I left the discboards, it was around, and when I came back a few months ago it was gone. It was a great site with a lot of useful information on it. Oh well.
