What could be better?

I posted a similar thread to this on the EVO board, and got a good response to it, so I figured I should post it here, too, to get any ideas I might have missed... Some of you may have heard me talk about "Moderation", a plugin package that does several tiny modifications to the game (ie: no more inherent governments on Confed/Rebel ships, so you won't get attacked if you just happen to have one). I've got a good idea for the ones that I'm going to do, but I'd like to know if any of you guys have any suggestions. Please note that I'm not going to be adding anything to the game, merely modifying what is already there, and these need to be fair (ie: don't tell me to give the Manta 550 more shields, etc.).

I've always thought that the patrol ships needed to have a slightly higher turning ratio since they are fighters

Every time I went to a wedding, my aunts used to poke me and say "you're next!", but they stopped when I started doing it to them at funerals.

Give the Clipper an extra javelin pod. It's already in bad shape in terms of performance, so that might give it a minor advantage.

Give the Confederation Frigate and Rebel Destroyer each an additional proton turret. Two is, well... I'd expect more of a military warship.

That Shuttle needs at least one laser cannon (two recommended. One thing I liked about the Override shuttle was that it actually came with slight armament)... The poor sucker can't even defend itself.

Give the Confederation Patrol Ship a bit more speed.

Give the Bulk Freighter two laser turrets. That thing takes next to nothing to destroy, and it needs some decent firepower to defend those rediculous tons of cargo.

Give the Defender a single javelin pod with 25 javelins. It's going to die anyway, so it needs something to at least hurt you with. 😛 😉

Perhaps the Rebel Cruiser could use 50 or so more shields to give it a chance against the 'Fed Cruiser. 75% of the time, the Confederation Cruiser wins, and the remaining 25%, they both get disabled. Either that, or give the Rebel Cruiser an additional proton turret.

Well, those are the only suggestions I can think of at the moment. Hope they're useful.

Let's see.

Improve the Clipper's acceleration slightly, up until it's a 'good' rating. It's sluggishness is what makes it so annoying.

Make the shield upgrades increase your total by 25 each, instead of 15. I'd say 50, but that seems too much for smaller ships such as the fighters.

Change the Neutron Cannon so it's less useless. Either make it take up half the space and keep it's stats the same, or make it take up the same amount of space and make it more effective. A long range primary fire neutron cannon might actually be useful on bigger ships.

Change the engine outfits. Instead of one upgrade for each aspect of your engine, make cheaper, less effective upgrades that you can purchase multiple times. Two engine upgrades for 50,000 credits that increased your speed by 50 would be better then one more expensive upgrade.

Some rebel freighters protected by mantas would be nice. Some more düdes and flëets in general I guess.

A new ship, the Clipper mk. 2. For some reason I've always wanted one. As ship in between the Clipper and Corvette, with something like 45 shields and 25 armor, with 40 tons of cargo space, and ten tons more space for weapons and such. Guess it doesn't count, as it's an addition.

Make the bulk freighter available for purchase. Don't make it cheap though, as it is the ultimate trading vessel. Give it some more armor too.

Make the Confederates nicer to talk to. They always say, "Unauthorized use of communication is violation of Confederation Navy Code." No innocent little shuttle trader wants to hear that. No wonder they have a predisposition to like the Rebels. Make 'em say, "What's up?" "Speak to me," or "Howdy." Something fun.

Three words: space bars everywhere.

Add references to the web board. Example: Instead of "Welcome to the Armstrong," what about "Welcome to the Armstrong, home of the Rawzer Burger." (Or Skyblade Shake, or something, but it was my idea, so I think I have first rights if ya use it.)

Give third-rate colonies (Luna, Mars, Diphidia) more outfits. They've got barely anything.

Add the ability to help stranded ships for cash. I feel guilty stealing from pre-disabled traders. But you shouldn't be able to help if you attacked them.

Rebel trading ships that aren't part of Confederate attack missions.

When you have an enemy targeted, try and make it so any ship you hit accidently doesn't fire back. I realize that there are cheaters who could manipulate this, but I'm just brainstorming.

That's about it for now. Let's hear some feedback!

Erm... well, a few suggestions (though they have been mentionned before, even in this string...)
- Rebel cruiser gets 100 shields extra (does that make it 600? I thought it was originally 500, but I haven't played EV without a plugin for a while), and possibly the 4th proton turret filled, but you might want to check what would happen in a cruiser battle, but basically it would be nice for the rebels to not get destroyed every time - maybe some of, or even most of the time. But a few cruiser victories, yeah? and the 4 mass drivers sounds good, too. Just to even up the battle.
- Corvette has twin proton turrets instead of twin laser turrets. It always struck me as odd that a ship that cost almost 2.5million credits would still be fitted with lasers as opposed to meaner, better sounding, more damaging proton turrets.
- Give the shuttlecraft a laser cannon, pleeeaasse. Then we can try to take on something big and die horribly quickly, without having to spend extra money to work it out.
- I reckon the argosy should be a tad cheaper (knock off 50 - 100,000 credits), so that there is less of a gap between the clipper and the argosy.
- And maybe a ship between the corvette and the kestrel, but maybe that's asking for a bit much.
- Also, I think that the missions for the two governments should be altered to allow the various ships to be accessed after various missions, so it works like in Galactic Scourge. Maybe you should be allowed the rebel destroyer after the astrodyne outpost mission, then the cruiser after the alien mission (In the case of the rebels). That would be a tad better than it is currently.

i always thought that there should be an argosy version that had a hawk bay. while useless, it would be nice and would vindicate the price a bit.

and for the fighters, i think that it would be better if you didn't have to micro-manage. if your under attack, you normally can't sit back and send the fighters after the enemy while dodging missiles. if they had some initiative, like say attack all people who attack you. would save time, and you wouldn't have to worry as much.

This is an engine issue. Plug-ins can't control this.

I know at least one plugin (Pale, I think) does something to this. When a Confed ship reminds you that using military channels is a violation of Navy Code, it also advises you to stick to civilian or commercial channels. Some "alternative" quotes might be:

"Come by the Confederate capital of Earth for some extra upgrades for your ship."
"Join the Confederation! We are always in need of merchants like you."
And, in a reference to EV: Nova:
"If you have any complaints regarding Confederation policy, feel free to contact your representative Senator on Earth."

At the very least, a bar on Earth. It's the homeworld of hhumanity and the capital of a galactic superpower, for crying out loud! Souldn't there be someplace to eat at its spaceport.

Also, you should do "defend the Confederate system from Rebel attack" missions. Sort of like the "defend Rebel" world missions. They would be in the bar, there would be a 5% chance of getting them, and you would basically defend the system against Rebel invaders. I don't recall if EV already has this, but still.

Give Palshife a bigger defense fleet. It's the Rebel HQ, should it not have a larger fleet than 28 Rebel warships? Or course, the Rebels have less resources than the Confederation (at least a smaller Navy), but still. You could do a "EVula's challenge" fleet of 3765 Rebel warships (of whatever the number of warships Earth's defense fleet has) or perhaps, more realistically, several hundred warships. Speaking of the Rebel homeworld, give the Satori system a larger presence of Rebel ships. It's the Rebel HQ, and there are Rebel systems that have a larger naval presence than Satori.

That is a good idea, but it should probably only be non-core confederate worlds, because it is much easier for the rebels to reach.

Defence dudes should have less ships but larger waves as dominating planets is DULL when all you have to do is blast lighntings/patrol ships/rapiers ect. out of the sky one by one. e.g. instead of fighing 50 waves of 5 ships you could fight 5 waves of 30 ships to make the battles more intense but quicker.
How about:

Scale the ship grapics so that they are all the correct size (so the defender is 25 times smaller than the confed cruiser insead of about 5 times smaller)

Make the particle beam do more damage and use less fuel.

Make the "special" outfits (cloaking device, tractor beam, particle beam) not stay with your ship but available to buy after the appropriate mission is completed.

Make all the fighter bays hold more fighters

Make the hawk bay slightly larger (so you can't fit one on a lightning) but hold more fighters (like 😎

I like the idea about the larger waves, I think EVula could manage that for core worlds.

The particle beam is fine as it is, I think.

And why do you think you should have to re-buy the special things every time? The whole point of them is free stuff.

I think all two ship fighter bays should hold four, but the Manta bay should hold eight. Patrol ship bay, ah, keep it at what it was. 😛

Um, why don't you want to be able to put a hawk bay on the lightning? I know it's sort of impractical, but more space means ships have to give up a few lasers, and that might not be nice.

AWoohahD, could you put spaces after the comma in your location? If it doesn't have the spaces, the left table gets fairly wide, and it's nicer if it's smaller. 🙂
