As do I. However, I think it probably did have a more confederal system of government when it began, and drifted towards a federal system as events unfolded and that became the model through which it could best serve its members. This political process is one that has occurred frequently in history, and it doesn't look like stopping any time soon.

Yes. After all, the United States of America was at one point a Confederation, but it the National goverment was barely more than ceremonial.

Well, we know that the Confederation once had planets that are now independent, (Deneb III, for example - see the readme). That could mean that in the chaos of the initial rebellion, many of the now independent planets declared indenpendence and the ones that wanted to continue fighting the Confederation stayed in the Rebellion. Or, as htjyang says, the independent planets may have left peacefully. More on this later (maybe).
God bless,

Hehe, we would have been in the same squad, more than likely...

Actually, the war really began by the Confederacy firing on a Federal fort (it was in Confederate territory, but the North wouldn't give it up). I do agree that slavery wasn't the point; why would a poor, skinny kid fight for a rich, fat slave owner? The main element in the Civil War was that the South (as a collective) didn't have as much power as the Northern states in Congress (laws could get passed with every Southern state saying 'no'). They felt they had no power, so left.
Perhaps someone should do a "Reign of the..." plug for the Confederacy and Rebellion (using Skyblade's ships, to make it more interesting), if they haven't already. It would be nice to fight for either side, or maybe even get the two to combine (into what the Confederacy was supposed to be -- the voice of the people).

It looks as though UE Patriot is doing that but as he hasn't announced anything I'm not too sure about it.

Even better, it could be made to work in conjunction with (url="http://"http://ambrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/vftp/show.pl?product=evo&category;=plugins&display;=date&file;=evenhanced100.sit.bin")EV Enhanced(/url), an EV->Override port that I made (and it also makes the game take advantage of the features in EVO).
