There are ~many~ other references to the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy in Escape Velocity. In one of the major mission strings - I can't remember which one off the top of my head - someone is drinking a 'jynnan tonnyx'. For that matter, did you notice what the first two combat ratings are?

Someone also says "Thank Zarquan you're here," which I think is a quote from one of the HHGTTG books.

Soon I am going to the library, and I think I will check out the first of the books. I can't stand being the only one on the board who doesn't have anything to add to these topics. 😛

Remember that you are a unique individual - just like everybody else.

Yes, Zarquan is the prophet who appears at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe when the whole gang is there, amongst other things.

Sirius Cybernetics Corporation, the makers of Marvin the Paranoid Android and most of the other defective technology in the Hitch Hiker's Guide.

There are five books:

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
Life, the Universe, and Everything
So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish
Mostly Harmless

Rumor has it that a recently discovered manuscript will be published this spring, too...

"My guitar gently weeps." George Harrison, 1943-2001

(This message has been edited by Starkiller (edited 12-03-2001).)

In the topic on BnB we learned that this manuscript is most likely a new Dirk Gently novel.

And TheSpaceBetwee: Don't bother with Mostly Harmless unless you're really into the other ones. It's not that good.

I've read all of Douglas Adams' books, including Dirk Gently's Holostic Detective Agency (If that is exactly what it was called) and, though not by Adams I also read Starship Titantic and have the game. I heard something a while ago, I heard that Adams died, but I don't know anyone except my father who's heard of him and I was wondering if this was true, kind of hoping it wasn't.

I heard the other day that Douglas Adams was writing, or finished writing the sixth book in the series before he died and that they were going to publish it. I don't have any evidence to back this up other than word of mouth, so it could be a rumor.

It looks like some of the other people who posted on the board are saying the same thing, but I thought that the books pretty well ended after Mostly harmless (not to give it away or anything, but they're all dead). Although anything is possible with Douglas Adams.

I just finished reading, and I don't recall the Vogons blowing it up again. The guy made a mistake and thought he'd blown it up (which he didn't) and checked it off.
