Hi, I've been using Basilisk II to run EV on my old computer, and it's worked fine - but now with my new computer I can't even get past the initial gray screen you see when starting up Basilisk II or a normal mac, I've followed all the same steps and double checked what I did against two guides, and it's been fine, has this problem happened before?
------------------ (edit) Er, probably should have said something about my specs, heh.
My old computer: 500 K-6 II, 128 mb of RAM TNT2 PCI Video Card Windows 98SE SBLive X-Gamer 5.1 Sound Card
New one: AMD Athlon 1.33 ghz, 512 MB of RAM GeForce3 Video Card Windows 98SE SBLive X-Gamer 5.1 Sound Card ( same one )

Does Basilisk require an OS ROM file?

Are you sure you've got the mac system software? That sounds like what would happen without it (ie nothing). If you haven't try downloading it from here: (url="http://"http://www.emaculation.com/articles/starterdisk.zip")http://www.emaculati...starterdisk.zip(/url) Alternatively go to BasaliskGUI, click on the 'disks' tab and check that the starter disk is mounted.

Yup, it requires a ROM file but I have one and its loaded. I also have starterdisk.zip and it's under "Installed Disks" in the (Disks) tab.
------------------
Oh yeah, I've also tried a System 7.0 boot disk and it still didn't work...

This is a silly question, but did you unzip it?
Yes hehe, it's Starterdisk.hfv.
So, any other possible causes for this?

No, but that's because it's the wrong place -- a MAC webboard.
If I were you, I'd hunt around for some PC emulation webboards... they have to be out there, somewhere.
True =P, but I know some people here use Basilisk II and I was wondering if anyone had the same problem. Guess I'm going to have to find an emulation board or Basilisk 2 in particular...bleh, sometimes I wish I hadn't sold my mac, heh.

Why don't you goto the Mac Emulator topic. People posted emulators there and 1 of them posted Basilisk II link

A couple things -- 1) make sure floppies are enabled and that it checks it for system software and 2) make sure you have a ROM file and it's pointed to correctly.

By a boot disk I meant a downloaded .dsk file that has System 7.0 on it, not a physical floppy.

Hmmmm heres a thing to help you boot your Emulator (url="http://"http://www.kearney.net/~mhoffman/basiliskII/system753_tutorial/index.html")http://www.kearney.n...rial/index.html(/url)
Are you sure the "starterdisk.hfv" is the first on your list in the disks page? If the disk you use for EV is the first, Basilisk may be trying to run it off that and that may give you your blank screen.
The two above posts should probably help you out, but in case those don't work, if you had a Mac before and managed to keep some type of boot disk or boot CD, use that (that's how I first booted Basilisk).
plus you will need to get more programs to run EV so I doesn't have any errors
i have bliskil II and no problem so far. besides the stupid thing almost formatt 11 GB, good thing i fixed so it only farmat 300 MB (my mac hdd)
