The particle beam is what you get for doing the non-alien Confederation missions.

You get the Particle Beam while working for the Confederation.

It is a beam weapon (that is a pretty shade of blue, might I add...) that does a fair amount of damage, but drains your fuel tank.

Please don't use excessive amounts of ?!?!?!, its obnoxious.
