You've done a bit more than just bring them up to date.

They will be fair. THe HC stuff will probably stay where it is right now, since I've already worked that out. I determine the pricing mostly by an evaluation of combat ability, along the lines of "how many of these could beat one of those" and similar lines, taking into account weapons, shields, maneuverability, pretty much all relevant combat categories.
Don't be surprised if HC stuff is cheap compared to other stuff though. As it now stands, we seem to be at the bottom of the heap technologically, with the possible exception of the Carrier.

Actually, the Human Confederation Carrier really isn't a technology marvel. It's a rather basic idea and old design, but it's big. That's where it gets its power, similar to the Confederation Cruiser of Escape Velocity.

I know it isn't a tech marvel, but as you said, size scores a lot of points for it. They are a bt on the easy side to destroy by properly used fleets smaller than they are is the problem. In many ways, they're quite similar to Imperial SSds from Star Wars.
Everybody, there's a reason why the pirates will stay firmly entrenched in the Milky Way. Both the Dreden and the Aliens can incinerate us if we go into Sentaurus. We'll just stay here and make the HC fight a two-front war.
Spl_, ph33r the alien Destroyer. It is probably the best fighter-shredding ship in existence right now. We won't be going anywhere near the Aliens, though. Unless they come here.
What else? Pricing. It's true, the HC is probably at the bottom of the tech ladder now. Spl made the initial pirate designs quite overpowered, and I did my best to tone them down. Mac, if you have obscene prices for the pirates (which is entirely possible), IM me (Asriel29) and I'll tone down the ships some more. I think that's all for now.

Nice to see that one of the pirates has the sense to agree with me.
I'll have a bit of trouble IMing you since I don't have AIM, Asriel, but I can email you. Your profile address is correct, right?
Also, can you repost the pirate weapon data or a link, so I don't have to search for it? Thanks.

No, I said weapon data. I have the ships already.
OK, a bunch of stuff here.
First, I have a suggestion to help organize the start of a combat a bit. When a fleet jumps into a system, the defending fleet that is already there (if any) has a combat initiative. They get to make the first move. The arriving fleet can only declare where they're coming in and maybe something basic like immediately launch fighters. You can come in at long range (beyond torpedo range, fleets can't fire for a bit), medium range (about the extent of Missile range, fleets can start trading punches), or right in the middle of the enemy fleet (mass confusion). The whole fleet must pick one area and go there, you can't split things up. Pirates can't send Buster cannon ships into the middle to fire and pull the rest out of range, for example. This sound fair to everyone? Should help get fights started in a semi-orderly fashion.
Next, tenative prices for Pirate ships. These will stand unless my memories of pirate weapons are off. I still want the weapon data.
Valkyrie: 35,000,000
Halberd: 32,000,000
Peregrine: 30,000,000
Drake: 25,000,000
Corvette: 2,000,000
Gunstar: 2,000,000
Starscreamer: 1,800,000
Lancer: 1,000,000
Asriel, if you have a problem with any of that, e-mail me and we'll discuss it.

Human Confederation News Network
Special Report
In a surprise move today, HC President Macavenger, his government under fire by critics for stagnating technologically, has unveiled a new line of HC ships. These are expected to turn the balance of the coming war in favor of the Confederation.
The Confederation has introduced two new weapons, the Particle Beam and Turret, and the all new HALO (Homing Area Light Ordinance) Missile system. The Particle Beam is an old weapon originally developed by the old Confederation. The latest technological innovations have decreased it's power slightly, but reduced the fuel costs to negligible levels. "The HC has been lacking in beam weaponry for some time now, but development of the Particle Beam continued," Macavenger said. "We think we've finally hammered it into a workable weapon militarily. Having beam technology on our frontline ships again will eliminate one of the Aliens' biggest advantages over us."
HALO Rockets, he said, "Are a new type of anti-fighter weapon. We've taken a cue from the effectiveness of the Alien Destroyer, which inflicted massive casualties on our fighters in the Battle of Levo. HALO Missiles are like longer range, guided Pod Rockets designed for area damage, much like the Alien Detonator Canisters."
A new, reworked line of ships was also released to utilize these new weapons. The most significant changes are to the fighter force. The HC now has 4 types of fighters: Stingray, Swordfish, Skate and Devil Ray. "The Devil Ray in particular fills a niche that was empty in a fighter fleet," the president noted. "Before, we didn't have a heavy bomber. The Devil Ray should fill that role nicely."
Asked about the formerly ubiquitous Manta, Macavenger responded, "The Manta is a classic design, but has become obsolescent. It's just too old to be pushed far enough to keep up with modern designs now. We still have a bit of a soft spot for the Manta, and the design is still on file, so if a use can be found for it, the Manta may yet return to the HC fleets. But for now, we're taking function over nostalgia."
Other notable additions include the Skyblade Frigate, a picket ship named in honor of former HC President Captain Skyblade. The Republic-Class Carrier has also had its fighter bays expanded so it can now carry an incredible 1,200 fighters, a full 100 squadrons. The HC government has posted a page on it's website detailing the new designs here. As yet, there are no images of the Skyblade Frigate, but the military says it hopes to provide some within a week.

Skyblade, if you get a chance, Could you darken the Devil Ray, Cruiser, and Destroyer pics a bit, to match the others? Also, I'd like a new version of the Turreted Missile Launcher with the Missile matchinng the non-turreted version, if possible, since I'd like to do a similar weapons page. Thanks.
YYYAAAAAARRRRRRTTTTT! Must find something to combat HALOs and Particle Beams. Must find something to combat HALOs and Particle Beams. Must find something to combat HALOs and Particle Beams. Must find something to combat HALOs and Particle Beams. Etc

Nice set of ships. Too bad we pirates have a few designs to be released in game which will end up smashing even the carrier.

Sure I could, but which graphics did you have in mind? Are you referring to darkening the Rebel Destroyer, Cruiser, and whatever fighter graphic you want?

I strongly object. If I cannot determine my own battle tactics, "the thrill is gone". I will be too.
It is ridiculous to ask an attacking force to jump into a system and just wait -- while the defending force effectively responds to a "Kick me" sign pasted over the whole attacking fleet. Asinine.
Too many rules, Mac.

I agree with KK. This is a one sided rule as Pirates will almost always be attacking. Thus we are put at a disadvantage.

Yeap, I have to agree with that. Too many rules make a webstory boring and repulsive to new comers. The original "Battle for Sol" has tons of users simply because of the lack of restrictions...

Consider the suggestion dropped.
In case no one noticed, the Swordfish is actually a slightly modified and renamed Star Cobra. I've decided to name the fighters after fish in honor of the Manta, so the Star Cobra got renamed. This also means we don't have a Skyhawk, though that name may get used later on for a light capital ship of some sort.
Also, Skyblade, do you have anything that can make animated GIFs (Photoshop maybe?) I'd like a GIF animated for something unrelated to this or my plug, but don't have any software to make one. If you know of a freeware download I could get of a program that will, that would be good too, I can do it myself.

The only one I know of is a small app called GifBuilder. I don't have a URL, but you could probably find it on shareware.com or something of the sort.

Yeap, that's exactly what I use. It's free (and can't remember where I found it), and it does the trick. All you need to do, Mac, it collect the grapics or frames you'll need for the animated GIF, then organize and save them in GIFbuilder. It might even be available at downloads.com...

Thanks David, I found it on versiontracker. Seems there's even a carbon version.
Like I said, I found it at versiontracker.
For the graphics, I'm thinking for the Destroyer M7/8, Scimitar (Original EV Rebel Cruiser) and Devil Ray (modified gunboat). Those are all a lot lighter than the other ones you made, and it would be nice if they matched.
Ignore this test.
