The Argosy, because it has more than enough cargo space then you normally need, and would you send a bulk freighter through pirate territory to get in that last shipment? No, you would send a ship that could defend itself and take some fire before it goes down.

If you have the money, a bulk freighter maxed out with mass expansions can hold a phenomenal amount of weaponary and fighters. I've taken out confed cruisers with it, although I haven't done the alien string (that's where I got the money to modify it in the first place).
