Agreed. I certainly don't prefer flying one myself, but it certainly has potential in the right hands. It's basically got the capabilities of the Rebel Destroyer, only it handles like a slug...

You have no evidence to support your claim that there's a tax on the Kestrel. I think a more likely explanation for the disparity in price is that the Kestrel is a commercial product, so there's a substantial markup going to Atinoda, whereas when you buy a frigate, you're only paying for the materials and labour, since Terran Naval Yards isn't a commerical operation.
And cable_guy, the frigate is a lot more effective than you give it credit for. It may not suit your piloting style - in fact, it probably doesn't, since most people are best at flying fast ships - but that doesn't mean there aren't people who can use it productively.

Yup! That's exactly what I was saying(or trying to say ) before.

And just to add to that: I think someone asked earlier why you have to pay for the frigate at all - the answer to that is that while the Confederation isn't trying to make money off you, they don't want to lose money on the deal, so they sell you the frigate at cost.

And the game itself becomes a limiting factor. If you were given a frigate for free, your trade-in value on that ship (assuming that you did want to purchase another vessel, as cable_guy certainly would ) would be zero.

Alright, agreed, I was a tad harsh on the frigate earlier. I would probably rather have one than a shuttlecraft. But I prefer to use ships with speed to dodge attacks, rather than sit at one place and wait for them to come to me. Credit where credit's due, the frigate can take a pounding, but it really needs manoeverability. I suppose having all the engine upgrades brings it on a par with a stock rebel destroyer... but then you've lost, what, 280,000cr? That could have been spent on munitions, or armour upgrades (rebel destroyer and tritanium? mmm...). Besides, the destroyer costs less. But then we aren't talking about the destroyer. We're talking about a kestrel. So, looking at that... mmm, kestrel with tritanium. That's my bet, I'm sticking with it. And besides, black/grey is this years colour! White with blue spots went out of fashion years ago...

Yeah, but give a corvette all of these and it's faster than anything but a defender...
I'd say Kestrel because of the Frigate's clumsiness, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the frigate wins every time in an AI slugging match.
btw, I think that these polls get kind of boring sometimes...I'd sure like to see some ship polls with EVGE - that'd be a lot more exciting.
