And of course, don't forget the Rapier, Corvette and Kestrel, all quite amazing ships when you consider it...

So, place you poll. Government or Civilian (this isn't Rebel of Confed, that's obviously Rebel)

Metaphorically speaking, I'm metabolically challenged.

For capital ships, government. Fighters, civilian. Overall, since I fly capital ships more myself, government.

For my purposes, the civilian ships are generally more appropriate in the original EV for most purposes. I usually fly a Corvette, although I'll sometimes upgrade to a Kestrel or a warship for heavier battles.

Not it isn't - while the Rebel Destroyer is better than the Confederation Frigate, the Confederation has better ships in all the other categories.

Actually, I find the Manta superior to either Confederation fighter. The speed makes a big diference for playying with them, not that I ever would. The Gunboat is too slow for its armament, and the Patrol Ship isn't shielded well enough for its - this is from my view as a player. As for AI vs. AI, the Manta and Patrol ship is a wash, and I've frequently seen lone Mantas defeat lone Gunboats, and in other cases they both die. So for fighters in Rebel vs. Confed, I take the Rebels. Confeds have a superior Cruiser in AI vs. AI fights only, in all other areas, Rebel ships are superior or at least equal.

Reminds me of my early pirating attempts when I just hung out around New Cydonia and Lethe Prime and took the money from disabled ships whose opponents died in the same instant they disabled the other ship. Only got me enought to buy some missile launchers. 😛

As for the poll, I'd rather be in a Lightning than a Gunboat or Manta any day, but I'd rather have a Rebel Cruiser over a Kestrel.

For warships, government vessels (Rebellion is who I had in mind).

For fighters, civillian. The Lightning makes my day...

If you look at it from the viewpoint of simply the stats, people picked Rebel capital ships and civilian fighers for a reason. The Rebel capital ships are fast (a destroyer as fast as a rapier!), cheaper than Confeds and the Kestrel, and stronger. I find the destroyer a great deal since its shielding is double the Kestrel's, while still having better agility and a much better price.

The civilian fighters are kind of strange to me. Why on Earth (or any other planet, for that matter) would civilian craft be so heavily armed, much less better armed than government ones at that (I mean, don't most of the world's militaries today use American or Russian/Soviet arms and planes? Even the more minor hardware is better than Uncle Sam's motorboat with an RPG on it). But yes, they are better from a statistical standpoint as well, mainly because of speed, which matters a lot more when piloted by a human player.
