Plug-ins

I'm tiring of the original game, and was wondering if there were any plug-ins that extend the orginal plot of rebel vs. confed. If you can think of any, please suggest any other good ones.

It's all fun and games until the cat knocks the Nitroglicerine over.

I like Final Battle; it adds a lot to the original plotline, and also some nice new ships that are fairly logical extrapolations from the original. The missions were a bit buggy toward the end the last time I played it, though.

Well, to an extent, (url="http://"http://members.home.net/e-gamerguy1/ev/alien_invaders/main.html")my plug(/url) will add to that section of the story, though the main focus is on the Aliens. πŸ™‚

Oh dear, I'm getting to be as bad as EVula, aren't I?

If you don't mind if it skips a bit of time, New Horizons does bring the Rebel/Confed conflict to a conclusion, though it takes place about 100 years after the original, with different tech and such.

The best plugs for EV in my opinion are: The last 2 in the Empire series, EVGE, New Horizons and Galactic Scourge. I have played almost every one of the most popular plugs, and these were the best.

Mac, tell us when that plug-in is done, it looks, um... bodacious!

Just keep watching the site for updates, and I will announce when it is done, but probably not much until then, except on the site. And you can always find it in my signature if you need to remember the address.

Actually, the site is even now out of date, since I made some more missions this afternoon. πŸ™‚ And I think I may go make a few more now.

Pale has always been my favourite released plugin for the original Escape Velocity, and it does tie into the plot of the Civil War, although there are other plots in it too.

Although, now that I think of it, you might also enjoy the short-but-polished (url="http://"http://members.aol.com/darthur1/talon-ev/")Talon Plugin for the original Escape Velocity(/url), parts of which do deal with the Civil War. πŸ™‚

Well, if you want a visually-stunning addition to your Plug-Ins folder, I highly recommend (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/vftp/dl-redirect.pl?path=ev/plugins&file;=Evulas3DTargets.sit.hqx")EVula's 3D Targets.(/url) Its a well done plugin, even if it only changes the target graphics. πŸ™‚

You're getting there... I'm still the master, but you made me smile my patented evil grin (I'm kidding about the patent, but I still have an evil grin nonetheless). Bravo, glad to see I'm making an impression on the community. Now if I can just get everyone to spit out (url="http://"http://www.evula.com/")EVula.com(/url) into every conversation they have, I'll be happy. πŸ™‚

New Horizons, Final Battle, Galactic Scourge... all these extend the feds/rebels missions.. Pretty much any good plug will extend this plot somewhat.

It's fun to watch people advertise their own plugs here. Talon was pretty good, though I must ask, David, what inspired you to put 3 Proton Turrets on the Defender??

Actually, I was wondering about that.

The Talon Cruiser rules in that plug, because you can fit ten turrets on it. πŸ™‚

I haven't played too many plugs, but my favorite was Galactic Scourge. I say that would be a good one for the advanced players. They made really awesome ships that can destroy your puny little piece of (insert profanity here).

I try to think but nothing happens!- Ultimate Rebel

I'd recommend Galactic Scourge, Pale, or Final Battle. Galactic Scourge has excellent missions, Pale has amazing graphics, and Final Battle is just a mix of fun and excitement (though it is somewhat buggy :frown:).

Just my two cents.

Nothing, as a matter of fact - I don't know how that got there. I guess ResEdit must have eaten a bit of the plugin again, just like when the "Meet with Rebel Leaders" mission mysteriously broke back in June 1998. Oh well, another thing to put on the checklist for the next version...

..and if I'm not mistaken that is the third version that most of you were exposed to.. just imagine how freakin' buggy it was when it came out(and it was hyped as much as Nova was..)

Heh, I've actually played the original version. It was so buggy that I quit using it on day one. πŸ˜‰ The latest version has made plenty of progress, however...

I really like the Empire series, though the domination missions are too bloody long...

j00 ph33r th3 R3s01v3 c1a55 dr3adn0ught! (edit)got the name wrong first time :D(/edit)

Apart from that, I have an idea about how to make normal EV 5 times more fun to play:

-Make the Confed and Rebel cruisers VERY slow (say RC speed 60 and CC speed 40) and multiply their shielding by a factor of 10.
-More fighters (in the bays).
-Make the military fighters speed about 1000, its just pathetic the way they eat your Ions without ever catching you.
-Add some cooler weapons.
-Give the capitals much bigger stuff to shoot.
-Give the fighters beam weapons.
-Destroyers and Frigates get high damage beam weapons.

There. Now the difficulty is adjusted, and civilian ships no longer are able to beat the bigger ships easily. (especially the cruisers...sheesh their way to easy)
