More info on my plug...

Well, it seems that somehow ;), Insano has managed to find a couple of in-game screenshots taken from my upcoming plug, which have found their way to his (url="http://"http://evempire.netfirms.com/")website(/url) (Screenshots section, of course). Head on over and take a look. The plug should soon have it's own website, but my ISP is a bit screwed up right now as far as displaying pages from it's server goes, so it may be a bit. Haven't quite finished it yet anyway. I'll post a link when it's up. Meanwhile, let me know what you think of these.

Very nice Mac, though I now wonder about Magma compatibality 😉

I was wondering, does this plug have anything to do with the BFS, or is it totally seperate?

MAGMA compatibility is a possibility, I'm not really sure about that. Regardless, you've only got one new ship that probably won't be showing up a whole lot, so if you can stand that looking a bit funny, MAGMA won't be a problem. There is also a chance of... something else, but I don't want to say anything else at this point.

As for BFS, I am using some names and such from it, but otherwise it has nothing at all to do with it. Naming is partly because I came up with the name for the Alien jumpgates in the first place, so of course I'm going to use that.

Also important to note here, I think (should have in the first post) is that the new Alien ship sprites were done by Clueless.

Website is going pretty good right now, I hope to have a start on it up tomorrow.

Ahem?
I came up with the "Kaujath" part of "Kaujathin".
You only added the "in".
Although "Kaujathat" is completely your own invention.

Mac, we're all wanting a release date. At least, I am. Do you have any idea of when it might come out?

I sorta forgot that since I had planned on something very similar to Kaujath with the in on the end, but now that you mention it, I think you did. I'm also using your 'Karath(sp? Don't have the data files open right now to check) ending on both Kaujathin and Kaujathat.

Well, I was hoping before school starts, but that's Thursday, so not then. At this point, hope for before Nova, because if not before Nova... you'll probably have to wait a while. 😉

Website now posted! Whee! Insano, you can add links as appropriate to yours. (url="http://"http://members.home.net/e-gamerguy1/ev/alien_invaders/main.html")http://members.home....aders/main.html(/url)

I'd like to hear what people think about the site as well as the plug, but before you get too critical, pay attention to two things:

  1. The three words in bright red letters across the top of the page.
  2. This is my first attempt at a full-scale webpage.

I'll probably be updating the site and adding some stuff soon, but I'll probably spen most of my time today working on the plug itself. It's probably more important the the site, after all. 😉

MAc- Let me say one thing. Even if it coms out on the same day as Nova, I don't care if it takes up ALL of my computers RAM- I'll be the first to download!

Ooh, this ought to be good, we should have a nice dl race between Lyra and Insano... 😉

Speaking of, Insano, thanks for adding the link on your site, but the address starts with (url="http://"http://")http://(/url), not (url="http://"http://http://")http://http://(/url). It makes for an interesting link, but isn't very helpful... 😉

Mac, I'm not sure if my emulator will be able to handle nova... I fixed the link too.

I'm sure the emulator won't ;), but I never said anything about Nova - that was Lyra. The plan is to get it out before Nova, I hope. I'll probably make a Nova version eventually to take advantage of the engine, but I won't release taht, because I don't want to put out what would amount to a downloadable copy of EV on another engine.

Mac, are there any stores besides apple that sell macs? The ones on store.apple.com seemes, pricy. If there are any bargain ones that dell or another company makes that might be a better option. So, do you know of any?

Hahah, Dell. That's funny. No, there are no mac clones anymore. What you see at apple.com is about what a new mac is going to cost you. Sorry. That the price for a decent machine.

Or you could install linux and try to use MOL, a great mac emulator for linux. I don't know anything about emulation, though, so don't take my word for it. Ever.

ares1 was right, but they aren't as pricey as you might think. Remember that Macs have a lot higher performance for the megahertz than a PC does. The $1000 base iMac will run pretty much anything within reason. Basically, if some of that looks pricey, the low-end iMac should run any program you can afford just fine. What kind of PC do you have now? I could give you some idea of what Macs on their would offer similar performance.

While that is true, the lower end iMac video cards are crap. Even the GeForce 3 can't compare to its PC counterpart. Also, the MHz is actually lagging in Macs. But MHz is really only a side factor. What really determines the speed of a computer (and what Bill Gates (shiver) hides from his loyal MicroSerfs) is the processor capacity. How many operations it can run per minute. The old 733 can do approximately six to seven billion operations per second or Gigaflops. By comparison, the fastest (known) computer in the world can do between ten and twelve teraflops (trillion operations per second).

One of the main hesitations i have with iMacs is that if the monitor breaks, the whole computer breaks. Any way to fix this?

Unfortunately, the design is problematic. However, how many times did your Piece of Crap screen break?

It's broken right now. There's all these black and white horizontal lines that run across the screen.

Alright, can we steer this back towards my plug a bit? Insano, on getting a Mac, you could start your own topic there. One other place it has occurred to me to check is eBay, but I'd rather not discuss it more in this topic. In a new one, I'd be quite happy to.

Now then, I've run into another slight problem I'd like some input on here.

I have a basi plot laid out for a trilogy (yes, trilogy, not just a sequel). Whether or not I'll ever get around to finishing it is another issue entirely, since I have a lot of other stuff to work on, including my Starcraft Campaign, school, Nova when it comes out, etc. However, the plot as it's laid out now has the Confederation in this plug being a bit... different. Their storyline would actually have more to do with the Rebellion than the Aliens, and the ending would probably be even less satisfying than that of the Rebels. It would, however, mesh almost perfectly with the Rebel plot. So, I have another ugly story choice here. I can setup the Confederation story along the same lines as the Rebel story, fighting off the Aliens, etc., and making the two plots mutually exclusive, and picking up from the Rebellion plot strand in the sequel, more or less abandoning the Confederation strand. Alternatively, I can do the Confederation plot strand totally different, not dealing as much with the Alien as the Rebel line, but it would then fit in with possible future plugs better, if have a not so good ending for this plug. What's everyone think on this?

Also, I intend an upgrade on my site later today, if I have time. Keep watching there for news and such, I'm probably not going to be posting stuff about it here much, just updating the site.

Give the Feds an original plotline. It's much more enjoyable to play both sides, then.
