Aliens and downloading questions

I've been wondering about this for a long time: how did the Confederation beat the aliens in the Great War? It seems like a single alien cruiser could destroy a fleet of 10 Confed. Cruisers single handedly. (maybe thats a big of an exageration... but you get the point) My theory (and I was making a plugin based upon this, but I realised how much it sucked and I trashed it) is that we lured the aliens away from the core worlds into their own little group of systems in the very south of the galaxy. We staged a fake attack that drew back almost all of their ships, and then closed the jump corrider to block them off from humanity. Or something like that. Any other opinions as to how it happened?

My other problem is downloading. As you all know, ambrosiasw.com is a bit... completely screwed up for a few more weeks. I'de like to download EVO again and a bunch of plugs, but I cant because the servers are clogged. Most of the plugins I want dont have a homepage, and those that do just link to ev.com for download.

Ambrosiasw is our only reliable source for plugins and new software and stuff, but its really not very reliable. Is there somewhere I can download EVGE, EVO, etc? What we need is another server (run by a member of the EV community) that just mirrors (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/ev/addon.html")www.ambrosiasw.com/games/ev/addon.html(/url).

Maybe mirrors is the wrong word, but just putting up all the files elsewhere, for when things like PoG happen.

You must understand that there were only "dozens" of the Alien ships and hundreds maybe thousands of 'Fed ships.

Where did you read that?

And, hey, do you know where I can download the EVO 1.0.2 update other than Ambrosia?

1- In the confed mission string
2- No other ~legal~ place. However, ~someone~ could e-mail it to you. I would do it, but unfortunately, my connection has been unstable recently

Well, I seem to recall reading somewhere that there were only "16 Alien Battlecruisers" Please don't ask me where I got that, because I have no idea, though I doubt I would make it up.

1- EV:O is shareware, only capable of being distributed by the copyright owner and authorized sales parties
2- Plug-ins can only be distributed at the behest of the creator/copyright holder

OK,I got EV and EVO from my friend's Ambrosia Software disc you know, the one with just about everything on it?
I'm certain she's not an "Authorised Sales Party".
Does that make my copys of EV & EVO illegal,or are shareware laws just weird?

If the manual and/or legal disclaimer contained/distributed with the CD-ROM authorizes her to have legal rights to distibute the content contained on the CD-ROM, it is legal. Otherwise, it is not unless explicitly stated in an independant written contract.

If you can go online and legally download it, its legel for your freind to give it to you off of a CD.

Only if the legal disclaimer contained/distributed with the CD-ROM in question can determine of they have the right to destribute it too you.

I've heard that quote too, and although I don't know where it came from, it is definitely wrong. The only indication given anywhere in EV as to how many alien cruisers there were is in the Confederation's alien mission string, which says that "dozens of these ships devestated entire worlds."

Just because dozens were devastating worlds doesn't mean that there aren't more ships doing something else. Right?

I doubt it. In the context which you take it, it seems they are saying how a few Alien BattleCruisers can exert extreme power projection. Therefore, it seems that they concentrated on orbital bombardment of planetary bodies.
