The Confederation has finally crumbled. The Rebel cause seemed harmless at the beginning, but by slowly pulling off victories against the Confederation scourge, they have finally suceeded. Sol, now the capital of newly-formed human confederacy, now faces a far worse ordeal, however. The aliens, once thought to be extinct, have returned. A new battlecruiser has been spotted, and ships of other classes as well. The aliens know the humans have again discovered them, and they won't be in hiding for long. The galaxy awaits your command, your fleet, your moves...All of which will affect the war that was never finished. Welcome to the Battle of Sol, episode II - The Unfinished War.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
If you would like to participate in the upcoming "Battle for Sol" sequal, please read all the information below:
Please refer to this map:
(url="http://"http://members.home.net/e-gamerguy1/ev/bfs2/TheUnfinishedWarMap.jpg")-The Unfinished War Map-(/url)
This will be very important during the Unfinished War string, and will be constantly updated (but be forwarned. It is 400k, but worth the load time). If you will look at the Satori system (Pashlife), you will notice a small human confederacy vessel (formerlly known as the Rebel Destroyer) and the words "CS" next to it. These initials stand for "Captain Skyblade," and the ship represents my fleet. You are also permitted to choose a fleet (ship icon) from any of the three major governments, choose your initials and the system you wish to start in, and leave the rest up to me (update map graphics etc.). Although it might be hard at times to update this map, it will put this topic into visual contact, making this much easier then previous battle topics. Also, while choosing the system you wish to start, be sure to name the number of ships in your fleet, and what kind of ships.
Refer to these shipyards:
(url="http://"http://members.home.net/e-gamerguy1/ev/bfs2/human/HumanConfederationShipyard.html")-The Human Confederation Shipyard(/url)
(url="http://"http://members.home.net/e-gamerguy1/ev/bfs2/pirate/PirateShipyard.html")-Pirate Shipyard-(/url)
(url="http://"http://members.home.net/e-gamerguy1/ev/bfs2/alien/AlienShipyard.html")-Alien Empire Shipyard-(/url)
These shipyards will be very important as well. Each shipyard shows the vessels available to each race, as well as major statistics. Some of these stats will also affect the gameplay. For instance, the Frigate has fuel for four jumps, which means this ship can only move a maximum of four systems per post. The Cruiser has enough fuel for six jumps; therefore, it is permitted to move six or less spaces per turn (you probably get the picture by now). Also, players are permitted to create new ships, but due to a busy schedule, each race can only build one new vessel of a new class per page of the topic. If a player does build a new ship, then he is asked to post a shipyard and comm view of that ship under a not-yet-posted topic, where I'll retrieve the graphics and update the shipyard(s). The player is also required to submit stats of any new ship under the same topic in which the "new ship" graphics are posted, so that they also may be added to the shipyard. Hope this part makes sense.
As for battles, this will be where the player's judgement comes to mind. We have no way of "rolling dice" or choosing which ships are destroyed during a battle, so therefore this all is the player's choice. To jump to the point, just be fair. If the Human Confederation has two cruisers and five destroyers stationed at Apollo, and they are attacked by an Alien Battlecruiser, how would you judge the battle? If this occurance happened to me, it would be obvious that the human fleet would be destroyed (unless in retreats), while offering the Alien Battlecruiser light to possibly moderate damage. This is also where the ships you buy becomes crucial...Different ships have different roles and performance, so what you buy plays an important part in battle. Make sense? Great...
For every new page seen in the Episode II topic, the player earns money to buy ships. Each system that has atleast one inhabited system within itself earns its owner 2,000,000 credits per turn. The Human Confederation has 66 inhabited systems, therefore it receives 132 million credits per turn. Depending on what systems you take over, you earn more credits for your race. Example: The aliens launch an attack from the Serpens Nubula and capture Apollo. This decreases the Human Confederation's income by two million credits for every topic page, and increases the alien race's income by two million credits for every topic page. Systems that have no planet can be occupied by a race, but these systems do not bring the race anymore income. Also, if a player wishes to conquer a hostile planet, he must pick up troopers from one of his own transports, state in his post that one (or more) of his ships are carrying troopers, and then proceed. Got that?
Keep posts as short as possible. You are only in charge of your own fleet, and only your race president or leader can give you more ships. The president of a certain race gives all major orders. For example, say I'm president of the Human Confederation. I then notice that Mac's fleet has had heavy losses, so therefore I order him back to the nearest friendly planet. I give him some ships bought during that page as replacement vessels. Sound easy enough?
A CEO of shipbuilding is also selected for each race. The leader of a race can also be the shipbuilder and designer, or the leader can select another person to head up building new ships and buying ships. If a person is only a shipbuilder, he cannot have a fleet to command (although if the player is both a president (leader) and shipbuilder, he may have a fleet). His only occupation is to design newer ships and weapons, buy ships for his race at every new topic page, and modify old ships. In short, a shipbuilder must be a graphic's designer and post shipyard and comm views of his new ship on the "new ships" topic (once created). If anyone here is selected as a shipbuilder and doesn't have graphics skills, I'll be happy to design the graphics for him. But this will take much more time.
Now, if you've looked at the map (like you were suppost to. ;)), you would have noticed that no alien worlds are visable. This means the alien player gets to play this game the way he wants, since none of his systems are currently seen. The alien systems must be explored by the Human Confederation or Pirates, and the player that explores these systems (seen in white on the map) decides what he finds (an uninhabited planet, nothing at all, or an inhabited system). However, the player cannot engage alien forces while exploring systems beyond the Serpens Nubula, since the alien player(s) get to attack when and where they want to. Once an alien fleet attacks an opponet on the map, the alien fleet is visable on the map for the rest of the game. Even if the alien fleets tries heading toward unexplored space again, the space will be uncovered as the alien fleet movies (hope this makes some sense). As you can probably tell, I'll have to be updating the map constantly, but I'll manage.
Well, I think I've covered all that current rules. Please, any questions you have, just ask. Once we get all the rules and registrations complete, I will start the episode II topic. Deal?
To start, just follow the first steps mentioned within this post. Also choose your race, pick your two initials for your fleet (as will be seen on the map), pick your job (fleet commander, shipbuilder etc.), and type your fleet numbers (should you decide to be a fleet commander). Please keep fleet numbers under 200, as we don't want this to get to confusing. Simply pick the ships of the race you want to serve, but be fair (in other words, don't pick 100 Carriers if you are a Human Confederate Fleet Commander). Up to one superkestrel, carrier, and alien battlecruiser may be issued to each fleet at the start of the game.
Well now, please get started!
Here is my information:
President and Shipbuilder of the Human Confederation.
Map Initials: CS
Government: Human Confederation
Fleet: 1 Carrier (does not come with fighters) 2 Supercruisers 10 cruisers 20 Ospreys 25 Destroyer M5s 42 Star Cobras 50 Dragonflies 50 Mantas
(exactly 200 ships in all)
- - - - - - - - - -
A few additional notes: Since the Human Carrier and Alien Battlecruiser hold a rediculous number of fighters, the fighters do not come with the ships when purchased, These ships must be stocked with already-in-service fighters. Anything else that holds fighters (according to shipyard data) does come with the fighters, however.
Alright, so you all get started submitting your info! Please feel free to ask any questions you have...

Once we get enough players for each side (maybe 2 to 10 players per team), I'll post the webstory, and everything will be underway.
Also, a point I forgot to mention. It is extremely important that fleet commanders keep track of numbers and losses. For every post that involves changes in fleet numbers, it's the commander's responsibility to add vessels to his fleet (if the shipbuilder gives his fleet more ships) or to take away ships from his fleet (if the commander losses ships from a battle).
Also, on fighters for my Carrier. Do I have to purchase them? Or are my fleets 45 Star Cobras and 60 Dragonflies held in the carriers bay?

Since you are commander of your fleet, that's your decision. The Carrier has room for up to 1000 fighters, so it has more than enough room to hold all the fighters of your fleet. This can be useful, since most small fighters only have a range of three or four spaces a post, but the carrier has a range of ten spaces (jumps) per post. The fleet commander can load all his fighters onto his carrier (if he has 1000 or less), and then transport those fighters up to 10 jumps.

Well, to simulate battle. You could run it through EV in a plug-in. But that is too impractical. Maybe for huge battles... (wait, the EV engine couldn't handle that

Actually, because I have some battlecruisers (4 jumps) in my fleet, I'll leave the fighters out for easy access during combat situations.

It would be neat if we could do the battles through the EV engine, but it isn't powerful enough. We're just going to have to stick to doing the battles the old way (which I still enjoy).

That's fine with me. Do whatever you think is best. (also, try posting more of your questions within one post...We don't want to flood this topic).
(RATS! I just realized I put an extra "S" in the word "episode" of this topic title...Guess I wasn't paying attention.)

You can't load the map? That isn't good...It's very important, but I guess you can do without it. I know a "lousy" modem would lode a 400k image very slowly, but I didn't think it would disconnect you...
...I'm so thankful for a cable internet connection.
Anyway, I'll update the map. Thanks for joining.
Hrm, well, I'm still a human rebel at heart, but since we've got a lot of those already and I don't think we'll see too many more people, I think I'll be Alien President, and, at least temporarily, shipbuilder. I'll have to download Strata sometime soon and play around with it some, see if I can get stuff to work like I want it too. Lack of software has been a bigger problem for me than lack of 3d modelling skill (I'm better with that than my CAD "Teacher" at school, hehe, although he's great anyway), so it could work out. Since I'm alien and won't be on the map immediately, do I have to give you my stats now?
Also, The Alien Battlecruiser doesn't look to me like it comes with a rediculous number of fighters, so I think it should come with some. Anyway, can I modify the stats on those a bit? Another thing you should consider adding to those stats is shield recharge. My original concept for the Rebel Supercruiser on the other thread had shields of 750 and a shield recharge of 30 , which would actually give it the most powerful shields in the game, by far. I've since knocked that back to 60 after 3 Confed Cruisers of Class III couldn't knock its shields much under 90%, and that was an AI vs. AI battle.
Also, I take it you aren't using the designs for things with the same names from the Original thread? Your SuperKestrel is pretty much exactly like what David's Osprey looked like, just more textured. My Supercruiser has the wrong stats and looks for what it was originally designed to be.
I may morph the plug into a TC for this thread, since this one seems to use almost all new technology. With turreted torpedoes it may even have to go on the Nova engine. The old thread, I will admit, got a little disjointed and with a lot of new tech towards the end, and would have been hard to build a coherent plug for. This one should be easier, since the rules are well laid out (Learned after the first one, did you?). Are we going to have thread moderators, and if so, anyone other than Skyblade? Maybe the presidents of all 3 Governments would be mods, for balance?
I'm thinking I had one more question, but I can't remember, so I'll post it later if I think of it.

Little more than he needed to know RC, the aliens don't show up at the beginning, remember?
I remembered my question (I think it's the same one), which is, if the Aliens don't have any worlds on there, how do we get worlds? Do we have some that aren't known? If so, how many? If not, how do we get money?
Where do you download Battle For Sol 2?
Hmm, I'd very much like to be Alien Shipbuilder, if Macavenger agreed. I am experienced in 3D graphics, so that's no problem.
