3D EV

Just remember that such thoughts are purely imagination. A 3D version of EV and its sequals will never happen...Ask Matt or Andrew if you like.

Once Nova is complete, the EV gaming series is also complete.

I don't think he's ever released it to the public.

Compare the original Zelda to the current Zelda: Mask of Majora. They are not the same style of game, not even the same genre of game. These days, Nintendo just slaps the Zelda brand on some warmed over Mario 64 levels and it sells.

Currently, when you buy something named "Escape Velocity" from Ambrosia, you know you are getting a 2D arcade/RPG game. It will have a different scenario, but the fundamentals are the same. When you buy a Zelda game, what are you getting? Over the years Zelda has ranged from 2D overhead arcade to 2D overhead RPG to 2D side scroller RPG to 3D RPG. You are getting the latest fad in gaming.

Ambrosia could follow Nintendo's lead and produce a 3D version of EV but that would amount to a bait/switch for current EV players. IMO, Ambrosia should build an entirely new franchise, say, "Stars Aflame" which would be a 3D arcade/RPG game-- there is clearly demand for one. There is no need to dilute the current EV brand pushing a 3D game on us.

Quake has never been anything but a multiplayer FPS (ok, occasionally a single player FPS). RPGs and shared worlds built with the Quake engine get different names.

BTW, I propose to rename EV, the first one, EVC, and whenever we talk of EVC, EVO and EVN together we should say EV

**

The naming convention on EV Developer board and Nova board goes:
EV -- the first one.
EV:O or EVO or Override -- the second one.
EV/O -- both first and second, but some ppl get sloppy and really mean EV:O
EVN or Nova -- the third one.
EV/O/N -- all three (this is new).
w00tRalphTools -- DrRalph's EVN plugin developer toolkit 🙂

Depending on the board being posted on, "EV" may refer to EVO or EVN, judge by context.

This reminds me the first (or the last, if you refer in SW time) StarWars trilogy: the first movie (ep4 now) has been renamed "a new hope", and when we talk of SW, we talk of all 3 (or all 4 now ).

And for both EVC and EVO I say EV(O)

I like the idea of a new game that would no longer be named EV, and that would be in 3D. But what we ask for is a game with the principle of EV: being an independant that earns money and his living by journeying into space. But who can handle this?

Not quite, it's wootRalphTools™. Never forget the ™. I've followed those naming conventions intuitively basically since I got here, they do work well. I think the present system is fine.

I also agree with the idea of a 3D game with EV's principals under a different title, though it could be a little interesting to have to implement that. And for my earlier comment about 3d games with third person view, are there any that you actually move in a completely open 3d environment? FPSs like Quake you move in 3d, but you have floors and stuff, it's not open the way space is. I haven't seen Rouge Squadron, if it's 3rd person in free space, I would like to see how that works sometime.

So go on the internet game sites and bash all the PC users!

Zacha Pedro,Macavenger, magicianeer, that is exactly what I was thinking about.
You make the game 3D, flashy with lots of guns and it will be the next big fad.

I don't think EV should go 3D, because if you want the same grafix quality, you're going to slow the game down. Of course if I had one of those new G4s . . . .

Like me? ;)Sorry to gloat, but it's the coolest thing I own. Of course, all my friends simply dismiss it as a "mac". :frown: Jerks. Well, at least you guys won't, right?

I bet Bill Gates is an evil alien bent on hypnotizing everyone to love Windows. And us Mac users are the only ones smart enough to ignore him. But, I don't know. I want to get a Windows to play the really cool games (other than EV, of coarse).

I have the same problem. Even though it's totally top of the line and would burn any machine any of them own to a cinder in a speed contest, it is blown off for being a mac. On the other hand, I do have some mac using friends too. Seriously guys, it's almost better to be friends with windows users who don't appreciate it, because my mac using friends are all schemeing to kill me and/or break into my house and steal it. 😉 I think the best any of them own is an early iMac.

Well, personally, I agree that a full-fledged multiplayer EV wouldn't work so nicely, but what would be GREAT would be a multi-player duelling mode - players duking it out in-system, without any landing or hyperjumps allowed. Either everyone uses their pre-existing pilot files, or you get a certain amount of money with which to purchase a ship and outfits before the fight starts.
