as some of you know i have posted a few questions and opinions about various plugins. while i've noticed that although they many have added a lot of new things to EV, it damaged some of the gameplay elements of the original "escape velocity" ; for example - the emphasis of the medium ships and medium missions, the value of each cargo mission, the saving for that little better ship. (and not just adding a ship which can carry 100 more fighters with 1000 more missles), and so on ...
while hoping to preserve these elements, and of course, to add and modify many important things from the original EV, such as : - increasing the gap between rebel ships and confed ships, while adding more to their uniformity and unique designs of ships. - increasing the role and power of the big ships (making it very hard for a simple ship to beat a big one, but getting rid of the 10000 escorts and hordes of missles), - eliminating the roleplay of the rebels as birds of justice and the confederation as the evil and totally corrupt tyriants (when there should have been a little balance for the choices of the player, there shouldn't be a right/wrong in a freegame environment) - and the list just goes on ...
i've decided that i want to play escape velocity with those elements changed, thus i've began the work on the plugin "solid" a few days ago, under the ideal that this plugin will try to deliver solid and increased gameplay on many different areas of EV - while trying to maintain much of the original gameplay.
this is the first version, and it is mostly changes with the ships. put in mind i have worked on this plugin for only 3 days - so this message is to give a first glance, and a portal to the solid's homepage as it is too soon to upload versions of it to the download area here and in other plugins collections pages. check it out for a little time if you want, leave a comment if you think it is really necessary - and other than that have fun !

Cool looking idea there, but the download link on your website doesn't work. The link here on the board to the site does, but I can't download the plug off your site. :frown:
Keep up the work though, the stuff on your website looks real cool.

I agree, the huge ships with a rediculous amount of escorts may be fun for a while, but sending others to do your fighting is no fun in a game like EV. The un-realisticness of these ships remind you that this is just a game, and make it less enjoyable.
------------------ Write your complaints here: O Please don't write out of the space.
well thanks for the note, i just downloaded it myself from the page 2 minutes ago, it may have been a problem with the spaces or something, or a downtime of the server i'm on. try again or try this link instead : (url="http://"http://www.syrogite.f2s.com/solid/files/EV_solid_0.1.sea.hqx")http://www.syrogite....lid_0.1.sea.hqx(/url)
oh yeah, don't play with the tarantula too much, it doesn't have any "poison" yet anyway, hehe ...
I can edit your text if you want. I don't like bad grammer and misspelled words, so I will probably catch a lot of the things that you missed. I can also help you with the plug writing, if that is needed.

I agree. I have never seen a plug-in which features the Rebels losing the war. Yet I have seen several plugs which feature the Rebellion slowly edging toward triumph.
I've got an idea for a plug-in. Unfortunately, I do not have the sufficient time nor resources to create it. It is a "What if?" scenario that outlines the future of the universe after the Confederation defeats the Rebellion. The people are ushered into a cold, uncertain future where civil unrest is at it's peak, and outbreaks of violence are ever-increasing, especially in former rebel-controlled worlds. The Confederation has suffered as a result of the war, transforming it's once-powerful navy into a shadow of it's former self, unable to control the quarrelling that has come over the worlds. Many hundreds of formerly legal traders are turning to piracy, as the established trade routes are slowly becoming warzones. Overall, it presents more evidence that human beings are only human.
(Aliens? What aliens? I don't see any ali— )
oh heh, don't forget this is just a game, and from my point of view it should have fantasy characteristics. that's the "escape" word in the escape velocity afterall, escaping from reality, if i want to see the many negative values of humans i can just go outside.
if you can't do a plugin alone, you can find people to work with you on the areas you cannot do, if you don't have resources to do anything of the plugin, i would suggest giving it up - ideas for plugins exist in every EV player in the world, believe me.

The Empire plugin features the starkly evil Terran Star Empire (renamed confeds) smashing the Weave (restyled rebels).
well i wonder how the superiority of the confederation's arised, you may have misunderstood me, but "solid"'s idea isn't about putting the confederation above all. quite the opposite, it was made to offer the player some balance in the decision of which side to pick. While those two sides are still very different from each other (and even more, as must of you know), the very negative role of the confederation in the original EV effected the player's decision a bit too much - playing the greedy and corrupted side isn't that cool, however playing the tyrants and army-maniacs fits their role a lot more in my point of view.
further more, since the rebel are quite strong in "solid", the role of the player, then, is to tapper with this balance between the two sides - to the direction he will choose.
humph, unfortunatly the role of the player will have to come in the mission pack. but since i'm not planning to do it anytime soon and nobody wanted to join in the making of "solid" it is quite far to think about.
however, the main plugin is progressing quite well - i have just finished the destroyer and the frigate, which means only two ships are left to remodel, plus the hornet of course, and the two heavy-platforms weapons - the antimatter cannon and the flak turret.
well i've tried my luck with the projectile of the anti-matter cannon (that's the big weapons which are hosed on the rebel warships), and since this is actually the last thing which isn't planned i was wondering if anyone has any idea for the projectile - big spheres like the particle-cannon ? maybe a tear like the hellfire cannon or the neutron guns ?? i dunno, nothing gives it the feel of the powerful-big-bulky-offensive weapon.
i still suggest waiting for the finish of the plugin before playing with it ... that shouldn't take more than a weak.
thanks for the inputs, syrogite (wondering when ambrosia's members profiles will be stable again, i'm waiting for quite some time)

I've been working on a few prototype concepts that I may develop at some point, possibly under the Nova engine. One involves the rebels losing, another involves the rebels having already lost, and a third involves the rebellion winning for all the wrong reasons.

hummph, david ... you probably missed the previous message, because yours is really misplaced !

anyways, i just wanted to say that i've finished the main plugin (yeah two weeks of work from the start). it's a "beta" (well, not really a beta, because i'm the only "beta tester" ha ha), so there may be bugs here and there, please support me by emailing and telling me where so i could fix them right away. not much is missed, just a sound for the lightning cannon i guess - i'm too tired for that now ... plus i haven't really checked the last change (the add of the target images for all the new ships), i think it's ok though ...
if you wanna be the mission-pack designer (that is, changing the original missions a bit to fit the modified atmosphere, adding whatever you think is cool, and using me for you evil 3d-graphics-requests for the pack, etc ...) just email me, i don't think i'm going to touch plugin making for at least a week.
feel free to leave any comment here or through the email, i'm beat ... farewell ...

well, it seems this program is bugged, it ignores special techs, and all the id errors for the pics were just nonsense. (the plugin works great for me)
well, when i'll get myself registered again, i'll probably delete this topic - i'm not going to do anything in order to ad my plugin, just like any other thing i made.
oh, and thanks for letting me waste 4 hours for nothing, mortalfly.
