What's the most frustrating thing that can happen in EV ?

This happened to me once: I had crippled Ruby's defense fleet (which took a veeeeeery long tim.) I knew I was amlost done because when I killed a ship more didn't come off the moon. There was only one more. I tried to shoot a heavy rocket at it but because I was so close and my shields were low, I destroyed myself also!

When—having lost track of little armor you have after a bruising battle—your ship is destroyed by a single missile from an opportunistic pirate Lightning. Oh, the shame of it.

So go on the internet game sites and bash all the PC users!

I was playing the Pale plugin last week, and had just destroyed a massive fleet of rebel cruisers, when there was a bloody power cut !!! We were out of power from 5pm until 11 at night

I think the absolutely most annoying thing that has ever happened to me in EV is:

After getting GS, I backed up my best pilot file (a pilot with a Rebel Cruiser). I used GS, but then realised that I was using my real copy of the pilot. Before I actually did anything (besides land on a different planet), I had changed to my GS copy of the pilot file. Big mistake. My pilot file that was to be used in the game with no plugins now has 0 tonnes of space (which it didn't have before), and, because I bought a mass expansion, it now only has 305 tonnes of space (through a nice good fleet), and 0 tonnes of cargo space!!! Now my pilot is cruising around in that same ship... And I wish I never bought the mass expansion. It was totally useless... :frown:

I have one similar to Lord Gwydion's:

Once, when I was playing a plug-in, I backed up my pilot, and put the backup directly in the Escape Velocity folder, so I could delete the copy from his name. When I played the backup pilot, it saved over the original pilot I left in the pilots folder.

There was a time when I asked on this board if it was okay for my legal standing with the rebellion to do the Artemis group missions. I got a unanymous yes, so I played them and the entire galaxy hated me. Thankfully I had a backup - a backup that was about five hours of game time old, had half the credits, half the legal standing and half the upgrades to my corvette. This wouldn't have happened if I had played EV more recently and remembered that I was supposed to back up when I got back into it (playing EV that is).

Yeah, I've rather avoided them since then...

**For me, the most frustrating situation, is when your pilot has heroically disabled a Pirate Kestral, or Corvette etc. in a small ship such as a scoutship, or Courier, and an irritating little Manta, or Confed Patrol ship comes out of the blue, and blows it up before you can board it. Maybe the second most frustrating thing is when you have disabled a juicy prize, but you're too near the "wall" of the system, and the disabled ship drifts accross the wall, and is sitting there out or reach.

Any other candidates ??

How about doing the Alien Crusier Mission in a Corvette, spending 30 minutes firing at it, dodging the fighters (try blowing them up) and avoiding the weird beam that comes out of the front of the ship, when you finally destroy it and exit the system quickly before you blow up, to discover that the ship was half way through being destroyed and that when you go back into the system, the alien crusier is still there (with full shields) and you don't get 10m credits!
