It was my early days of EV, and I was valiently exploring the Southeast corner of the map in my shuttlecraft. Upon running out of fuel, I decided that I would just bite the bullet and use my sub-light drives to get me there. My request was politely declined by an invisible force holding me at bay. Needless to say, I didn't use the "Strict Play" option again.

that almost always happens to me when i have to destroy the alien cruiser. i bet i know SD's first encounter (me motion to the boozerama bar thread)

my first encounter was the first day i played ev, i just kept on flying and finally stopped. :redface:
I remember my first time...I never actually hit "The Wall" till I had a Kestrel and demanded tribute at an independent planet. As swarms of defenders followed me, I suddenly hit "the wall." Then five defenders caught up with me and destroyed my kestrel with a bunch of laser cannons...

I think you should be allowed to blow up those things. Or board them and rescue the people. Tell Matt Burch to add that to the next version, if there is one. Will there be one?
Anyway, my first encounter was running away from a pirate. argosy. :redface: I thought they were the toughest things out there.

Yeah, same here. I was in an uninhabited system and out of fuel. It's kind of funny how no one seems to jump into a system when your out of fuel and if anyone does they are hostile any way so you can't get fuel from them. That makes me :mad:.

you haven't been on teh boards in a while have you? (UR looks at teh amount of rawzer's posts then at his. his question is answered) the new version is called escape velocity nova. check upcoming and look at the picks and the progress they made. there is also a quick time movie on it.

We don't actually know that you'll be able to do that in Nova. Incidentally, there are no plans for any further upgrades to EV or Override, although we've seen evidence that Ambrosia and R&R; Software are somehow working to make Nova features available to the older scenarios...
