Problems in Pale plug-in 1.9

With some ships I can't buy mass expansions. Has anyone run into these problems? I have no cargo in my hold so that should not be the problem. I have this problem with the cargo-hauler, mod-corvette, and secure transport so far. Tried new pilot, same thing. Any ideas? I just reinstalled the OS (clean install) and reinstalled EV 1.0.5 off the CD too.

------------------

I never used any of those ships, so I'll just make a completely unhelpful post. Which reminds me of a joke...

A man was flying in a helicopter and somehow got lost. Finally finding civilization, he held out a sign on which he had written "Where am I?" while flying beside a skyscraper. The people inside the building in the building held up a responding sign which read "You are in a helicopter." The man immediately knew that this was a Micro$oft building, as they issued a technically correct, but completely unhelpful answer.

note I've only heard this joke once and it was not recently, so the blanks in my memory were filled in impromptu.

That was something the author of Pale did on purpose. Some ships are designed specifically for transporting cargo, and those are the ships which can't use mass expansions. The Corvette was redesigned in Pale to be a secure courier instead of a warship, that's why it can't have mass expansions. There's only one ship designed for cargo hauling that can have mass expansions, and that's the Argonaut I think.

And in case you're wondering how it's done, just set the cargo hold's size to a negative value, such as -100.

Um, no offense, EVaddict, but that's my old name. You can have it now, but I just thought you'd like to know. I used to post a lot unregistered, like here: (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/webboard/Forum14/HTML/000038.html")http://www.ambrosias...TML/000038.html(/url)
You might run into a few old posts by me 😄

Enjoy!

EVaddict, a question. Do you get the magazine macaddict? My dad gets it and I use the demo cds. That is how I got ev and evo.

No, I don't get Macaddict. I got EV off the CD that Ambrosia was giving out free a while back (over a year ago).

To Coreycubed: Thanks for letting me use this handle. I'm new to the boards and didn't read enough posts to notice it was already being used.

Other problems I've noticed in Pale (and other plug-ins) include mismatched ship graphics/descriptions. I fixed it by giving EV 50MB of RAM. Galactic Scourge 1.4.5 had this problem too. Strangely enough, New Horizons 1.0, which is much larger (25MB unstuffed), was just fine with 20MB of RAM. Oh well.

That's because New Hoeizons was not a plug, but a recreation; it had in it a data file, music file, sound file, ect., everything EV needs to run.

Could you please refrain from diliberatly getting off topic in the future?
Most people would just lower your karma, but you probably didn't know any better.

Try and stay on topic on the EV and EVO boards. There is a banter and brawl board for discussing off topics 😉

Actually, I didn't use it all that much (maybe 5 times). So, no one will really notice the difference.

Problems with Pale Visage mission. This mission is weird - the number of enemy ships is variable - it doesn't stay the same when you take off/land, and after completion of the objective the mission doesn't end. The Pale website has a fix for it, but the link is broken. Can anyone help?

------------------

I had so much trouble with that mission. I destroyed all the cruisers and would land back on Pale, not getting the mission completion text I thought that I had messed up. So I aborted the mission and started over again, killed the cruisers again, still no completion text. Aborted, did it all over again, but this time I noticed that the return spob wasn't the same one you got the mission from. Silly, silly me.

If you read the mission text, it tells you to land on Thanos IV, a planet in an adjacent system. The problem is that after destroying all the cruisers, there is no completion text and the mission remains incomplete after I land on Thanos IV. The Pale website documents this problem at (url="http://"http://www.fortunecity.com/roswell/astrology/90/download.html")http://www.fortuneci...0/download.html(/url) and describes a plug-in fix, but the link to download it is broken. I am certain that this problem is game and not user related, because the number of enemies is variable when you land/take off. Normally, killed mission targets stay dead when you land/take off, allowing you to rearm (the mission text itself tells you to land and rearm as needed). In this particular mission the number of cruisers varies from 1 to 10+, and landing/taking off changes this number, when it should stay constant (and decrease as you kill them off). I basically waited until there was only one cruiser, then killed it and landed on Thanos IV. No go. Anyone have the plug-in fix, or discovered a way around it?

I found the fix on Ambrosia's site. It is stupidly named "zzzpalefix" instead of Palefix or something similar. Search by name - I found it by searching by size, figuring it was a simple (and small) fix.
