I was once working on a plug dealing with the origin of the aliens beyond the Serpens Nebula. This may provide encouragement to finish it sometime soon. I'll let you all know if i do...

The only problem's with the original EV is that, 1) there are only like, 20 or so ships and not that many more upgrades, 2) there arent enough missions to keep one occupied for very long, and 3) You dont get any special technology when you join Governments and 4) you dont get to completely wipe out the enemies. Of cource, all of those can easily be solved with plug-ins so theres really no big problems with EV. EVO has a better engine and is much more interesting. It's more complex and takes longer, some people like that. The problem with EVO is that it's confusing and not as in-depth as EV. But EVO has much much more variability with 7 or 8 different races with different technology and ships. So it's really just a matter of a person's gaming preferences and style. They both have cool plugs( EV: Pale, Empire Trilagy and EVO: B5, Frozen Heart/ Femme Fatale ) but EV has Pale which is my all time favoret so I'm gonna go with EV for my vote even though I love EVO too.
Anyway, none of this really matters cause when Nova comes out it will kick the pants off EV and EVO ( and pretty much every other game in existance )

Try like 25 ships and 55 upgrades. It's enough to keep us interested.

I disagree. The alien mission is very fun to experiment with and try to do in weak ships. And you go through all the others to get to that one.

Try downloading Galactic Scourge for EV. It has tons of new, cool ships (Rebel Sentinel, Vulture Transport, and many more), more missions, lots of challenges (try taking the 'Fed Battleship in a Defender), and 6, a I repeat, 6 new alien races each with their own cluster of systems outside the original EV universe. This is one, among many reasons my vote goes for EV. Of course, with EVO you have a larger universe, more ships, more races, govts, and weapons, which, if you're not intelligent or quick to learn can be very complicated. But, EVO has the best StarWars plugin I've ever played on either games; SWforOverride. It has accurate details and graphics, a good map of the Star Wars universe, and cool SW weapons. The above plugins might not catch the interest of some, but they did mine.
Overall, I join the majority in voting EV.

Hey, can you give me a link to that Star Wars plug? I'd like to do one for classic EV, but don't have graphics available, or the software to create them. :frown: I'd like to look at some from exisiting Star Wars plugs, maybe take the best parts of each...

I don't know where the website to the Star Wars plugin page is, but copying pieces from it could get you in trouble (especially if you use ship graphics and decsriptions etc). Use with caution.

You wouldn't get sued by the plug makers (unless it's the makers of star wars, who would sue you.)

Well, now that you guys finally replied, that's out of date. I found the plug, and its graphics are cool, but not my style, and I figured out a way to get my own. So I'll be doing that soon. Note that mine will have more ships and actually be accurate to the SW universe, except that capital ships will have weapons reduced by an even factor across the board to get under MaxxShotsOnScreen. I hope to have that done by the time Nova comes out, but that's probably optimistic. I also plan to port it to Nova someday, and make it much better in the process for the new engine. Even if I did "borrow" other graphics, they can't sue me, because I wouldn't be making any money off them.(Except maybe the originals from the movie.)

It doesn't make the slightest difference whether you're making money off them or not. "Borrowing" graphics without the permission of the copyright owner is copyright infringement, no matter how you use them.
