There seems to be plenty of people talking about which of these games is better. I personally prefer the original Escape Velocity. Just post your vote and let them add up!

::of course, one would expect this on the Escape Velocity board::
Escape Velocity, and I would have said so no matter which board you posted this on.

Escape Velocity, though EVO is also great
Current Stats:
EV: 5
EVO: Zero, nadda, nothing, zilch
Ouch. This poll seems to be one sided.

I always like the original better, even if it isn't better. Carnataur, did you flunk spanish or somethin'? Nadda is actually spelled n-a-d-a nada, and the correct word for this would be cero. (exchange the c for a z and you will know what the word means)

Errr.... No, I never took spanish. All I know is that the word "nada" however you spell it and whatever language it is for means zero.
Heh. I thought nada was spelled nuada. Poor stupid me :frown:.
My vote goes to EV, though EVO's engine is better, EV's much more playable.

I perfer Escape Velocity to Override because it has somewhat more realistic qualities to it. One hostile alien race that would come without warning would seem more likely then having one hostile race and six other alien races besides. Then there is the ability to extend on the EV storyline and even create many TRs like the Empire Trilogy; in fact many great plugs are of EV the EVO(no offense to Martain Turner or Bomb). To put it shortly, I perfer Escape Velocity to Override, though I wish that EV had Override's more advanced game engine.

I concur. Escape Velocity had a better storyline.

Agreed. I liked EVO the first few hours I tried it, especially (masochistic?) with Pirates being much more dangerous (can you say Helian?) but then the politics and planet names got too complicated. Add to that the difficulty of getting outfits/ammo due to the number of alien races and their incompatible equipment and it was a bit too much.
EV's relative simplicity is its strength - planet names are pronounceable, politics are fairly clear, if a little linear. Not so many missions, and AI is pathetic (see Monty Python), but great fun. With the add-ons like New Horizons (massive total conversion) and Pale (very good extensions) it takes on a new life.
Go EV!
EV. EVO ran too slow on my Mac, and I could never keep myself interested in it. Also, I love the Star Wars ANA plugin, and the EV Webborad Governments plug (which I am a proud contributor to). EVO is just too foreign.

I prefer EV to EVO! The ships in EV look more realistic than the distorted shipes of EVO!

That's because you've probably never tried Meowx's Magma for EVO. It will bring a whole new meaning to realistic.
However, the ships in EVO Magma (for me at least) look a bit too dark and far too detailed. In Escape Velocity, the ships had a good complexity, and were rather realistic-looking, though not too realistic (it's a game, so why should it be totally realistic? :p). The only thing that I didn't quite understand about one of the ships, was: where the heck is the bridge on the Kestrel?

EVO sucks--bad graphics, irritating sounds, forward guns take up turret slots AND gun slots. I recently downloaded a plugin that claims to port EV to the EVO Engine. If the plug works as claimed, I might consider registering EVO (already registered EV).
Never registered EVO, cause it was too minor an upgrade (engine-wise) for $15. I do kinda like the EVO story, but EV's simplicity is rather attractive.
And, Carno, UR is right on your Spanish. Cero is zero, nada means nothing, not zero. I assume UR is probably fluen in Spanish, since he's from Southern Spain, but I know a fair amount too, not just going off him.
