The Argosy is a highly versatile merchant ship in Escape Velocity, also popular with pirates. It is named after a type of merchant sailing ship, which is in turn named after the city of Ragusa.
EV Nova also has its own Argosy, which is a freighter of the Auroran Empire.
This has been a public service announcement.

Dave, what's a manticore in EVN? You knew about the argosy, so I figured I'd ask you. I'm assuming it's a heavy warship based on that movie. It looks cool.
I remeber when I had achieved my first ultimate dream in EV. I always wanted an Argosy. I got my combat rating to mostly harmless in that thing. It was the happiest day of my life. Then I got a Corvette, but I wasted ALL my money on it, so I couldn't put the upgrades I wanted to on it. But it was worth it in the end.

Also, don't forget the Rebel Destroyer, which is essentially a really upgraded Argosy. And I mean really upgraded! It can even beat Confed Frigates!

Perhaps you meant the Rebel Destroyer? The Cruiser is a totally different design built by the Rebellion itself...The Destroyer holds plenty of resemblence of the Argosy, and it does trash a Confed Frigate.

The Manticore is a large warship of the Associated Guild of Free Traders, who are more commonly known as "the pirates." It has a large blue ionising beam called the Crown of Thorns, and powerful ionising guided projectiles. The ionising weapons make it easy for it to stun and disable other ships. It will then board its enemy, and steal their cargo. The two rings of standard cargo pods around the front section give it a very large cargo capacity.
Man, I thought the Manticore stunk.
And don't forget the Pirate Carrier. Man that's things nasty, but not as powerful as the Federation Destroyer, Federation Carrier, or Auroran Battlecruiser.
In case diehectordie was asking an intelligent question, here is the dictionary definition of an argosy, as it is an actual word.

All the information I have on Nova was compiled through the completely acceptable practice of listening to the development team on the web board. If andrew doesn't like it, he's free to offer me a NDA of some sort.

I have seen it beat Confed cruisors without its' sheild going less than 75%
