Oh, believe me...Matt's Kestrel is by no means underestimated. Although I have managed to destroy him without cheats years ago, he is one tough target that takes a heap of damage before crumbling. He is very likely to kill you before you ever get his shields below 90%...

One of the most underestinated ships is the shuttlecraft. After all, jou don't pay any money for it.

I think that the luxury liner, and Barges are pretty good ships if properly upgraded. The Defender (aka Paper-Mache Fighter) is a sorry peice of ****....
Argosies are just giving you a sense of false security....
Shuttle's can get destroyed by a Defender or even an Executive Transport....
By far, my favorite ships are the Corvette, Kestrel, and Cruiser/Destroyers when upgraded.

Actually, if you outfit a shuttlecraft with lasers, It can take on.... Executive transports Defenders Light Frieghters Lux. Liners Couriers Conveniently, all are frequently used by the confeds,
Yeah the Agrosy is good. I say it makes money the fastest. Use it when saving up for a Kestel or Cruiser.

I think that the corvette is underestimated, though we all seem to believe that its great, i think we dont understand its potential. Its probably the only ship that can be adapted to fit almost all playing styles(it can be a friggin FREIGHTER!). Its fast, well armed, and can haul a lot of cargo as well.(I think 60 tons). Capture 2 lightnings as escorts, and watch the kestrels DIE!!!!!!(and anything else for that matter). Lightnings are also underestimated, they arent great, but they make excellent escorts and are good for pirating(though a bit low on shields...). Defenders, frankly suck. They get taken down by light freighters, even bulk freighters.theyre ok to hire as escorts early on, but thats it. corvette-my favorite ship

Confederate civilians, that is.

For some people power is everything so I also think the vette is the most under estimated ship it might not beat a cruiser in a dog fight but with special tactics the ship can be increadibly powerful.

Actually, I think, from this conversation, that the Defender is the most underestimated ship. I have actually purchased a Defender several times, and I enjoy using it. I have even taken out a Confed frigate with it! You just need to know its limitations, and take advanteges of its strength:speed.

Yah right! Thats imposible, its like saying "I beat a Con cruiser with a Shutle".No way the defender just cant destroy a Frigade, its to small. Although if you actualy did that with no EV edit, You are my hero!!! Pshh, yah! But you are a very skilled pilot!

Sure, with speed upgrades, you can outrun any missile. But you cannot deal enough damage with lasers to destroy a frigate. They just don't pack a punch.

With with 999 javilens and 3 lasers, you might be able to take on a cruiser.

You guys do realize that the frigates and cruisers have enough turrets to blow the **** out of a defender on the first pass you tried to make!
I think the most underestimated ship is the (B)Argosy(B), i have an argosy. ah...yes...my argosy. a beautiful sight to see, blowing the crap out of clippers and argosies.
yes, i just sit there in the altair system, with my 2 torp launchers and 25 torps, and hammer them. 4 torps for an argosy, 3 for a clipper, then board them and take my money. an when i run out of torps a started hammering 'em with my twin proton turrets
------------------ Kirk - Scotty, we need more power! Scott - I kinna do it captain, I kinna reach the controls...
also, just for you guys, i'll design a plug that adds a modified scoutship and a modified clipper as rebel fighters
The Scoutship is underated, particularly as a fighter. Lately when I play thru EV, I get a Scoutship and outfit it with the upgrades, two javelin pods, two missile launchers, and 10 missiles.(this leaves no room for a ramscoop). With it, I can disable any other ship in the game. I usually go to Altair and hunt pirates. The Scoutship with upgrades, is fast enough so that you can circle any other ship, be it a Kestral, or even a Rebel Destroyer, until it's out of missiles, and then do the Monty Python and spray it into submission with javelin rockets. The bigger and slower the enemy ship is, the better this works. It's hard to take out lightnings this way, which is why I have the 10 missiles. I do this until I capture a Corvette, a Kestral, or accumulate 10 M credits (whichever comes first)
------------------ Lightspeed: 11.78 inches/nnanosecond
I'd say the scoutship is definitely the most under rated ship. Although I never used mine as a fighter, I could see how effective it sould be, they're just so hard to hit. Also, if you put 2 javelin pods on a shuttle it can easily take out an argosy, and if you're feeling particularly brave you can have a stab at a clipper.

A scoutship with 2 javelin launchers + 4 lasers can challenge corvettes with good chances.
Putting two javelins in a shuttle is asking for trouble-- you dont have enough space left for both the Ramscoop and Afterburner. (out of fuel in altair, a pirate fires 3 missiles at you).
i have to agree that the scoutship is one of the least credited good little ships. i always move from a shuttlecraft to a scoutship, and from there to the more powerful kestrels and cruisers. it is fast, and has lots of fuel for an afterburner, and, in addition to having nice sheilding (for a small ship), it has ample room for a weapon or two. i always work pirate argosy's, and sometimes corvettes and kestrels with it.

I've never bothered with the ramscoop anyway, it takes too long to collect a significant amount of fuel. I just thought it would be fun to have a pilot with a lethal shuttlecraft, and it was until I died.
It seems I am the only one who doesn't think the Defend is a complete piece of junk. Granted, its armor is flimsy and its shields laughable, but with the right upgrades and quite a bit of skill, the Defender can become a worthy craft. With it's speed, acceleration, and turning upgraded, the Defender becomes nimble and agile enough to dodge missles (its biggest threat), and with the jammer those become no problem at all. Then, a combination of two javein launchers with maximum javelins and two laser cannons makes the Defender fit for combat (piracy being the best option). No novice can pull this maneuver off, however, as even a glancing blow can incinerate a Defender. This being the case, dropping any combination of javelin launcher(s) and/or laser(s) and using the space to upgrade shields and/or armor may be a healthy alternative for one not so confident of his dodge abilities. This strategy, although not good for your health, is deffinately fun. Nothing is better than taking down a Kestral by straffing it to pieces.
