Strict or no. . .

Does anybody play in strict mode? I asked this question about a year ago and I was
wondering if people's opinions had changed.

Ripley: "These people are here to help you. They're soldiers."
Newt: "It won't make any difference."
"Aliens"

No way!! I hate dieing and not being able to continue, that would suck!!!! Especially after I get my mega warship!!

2nd generation idiot and proud of it.

When I first started I didn't. Then I switched as a challenge. Then I went back to non-strict since I was just having fun.

NO, no strict play for me in EV anymore (But I still have an EVO pilot on strict...)

Well, I played for about an hour on strict, died, and then realized that I had wasten an hour.

That's what annoys me the most. I don't play on strict, but if you wanted to start with a non-strict pilot and put an escape pod in. If you die for reasons that were right, press command-e. Otherwise jsut open you pilot again. And if you ship is too small to give you enough time to press command-e, its probably not worth much and you can jsut throw on an auto-eject.

Erm, yes, I do. I play strict mode now, but only because it was one of the terms for the EV challenge (which disappeared long ago...). It's annoying trying to get the money together for a better ship, because you do need to stick within confed worlds for safety. But now I'm in a rebel cruiser, have 6 kestrel escorts and 62million credits, so I'm doing pretty well. And it adds an extra bit of spice to the game.
And I still don't buy those pesky escape pods. Why? I'm in a rebel cruiser for god's sake! I'm invincible, as Ruby found out....

After the EV challenge, I will now use strict mode for standard EV, but not for plugins.

The author of the "Empire" plugin did nasty things like allowing huge pirate fleets at Earth and giving you a horrible govt rating for the smallest offences, so big warships beat up on you too. He also has vicious ships like the missle cruiser and calan fighter which fire missles so fast they are like beam weapons. Strict mode under these conditions is impossible.

I did try strict mode out quite a while ago, though. The only problem was I found myself using force-quit alot...

I'll use strict mode once I feel I've dominated. You almost have to stick with trading in strict mode, it seems. I'm not a fan of trading, that is excluding the Levo-Spica medical route.

Hey, I resent that! Tim did good work on that plug and made it challenging. It gives culture to EV as well as challenge.

There is such a thing as unrealistic, you know, even in science fiction.

Oh, and I see that you have been promoted. Congratulations ;).

I don't like playing in strict mode....I've spent maybe 25-30 hours on my current pilot, and if you screw up once you have to restart. I've died countless times already, but I can always continue

Oh, strict can be fun - but it's royally irritating when you mess up the TINIEST bit

And take an uncheduled spacewalk.

But I admit, I wouldn't have done it (were it not for the EV challenge!)

I used to play strict, but only because I played it from a CD that came with my old crappy mac. Whenever I quit playing, it would delete my pilot file. But when I got my G4, I took the game and loaded it onto the computer, so it would save everything. 🙂

I agree, Empire is a very good plugin. I enjoyed it and am now playing E2 dark horizons. I did not mean to imply that Empire was a bad plugin. Rather, the author did not take strict mode into account when he made it. There is no safe area in his universe where a player can earn cash and get a ship with a sporting chance of survival.

My first Empire pilot was in strict mode and lost two ships in supposedly safe space before I gave up and made a new character. Even in non-strict mode, weave escort carriers blasting everything at earth is very hazardous to my shuttle.

I dont know who won, Only 3 people (me, cable_guy, and I forgot whom else) submitted pilots. Skunko7 said something about a vote, but that never happened.

We'll call it a draw. They were all damn good pilots, but did anyone try the confed approach?
Although I haven't touched mine in a long while: I finally got around to downloading Galactic Scourge, and it is a really quality plug-in. Three questions I might like answered though? What mission gets you the rebel dreadnought (they've only offered the defense platform so-far... can anyone use that?), how do you get on the good side of the replicon things (just left of Akio), and when does the Diphidian Defense Team give you those things that give you 500 tons expansion? They said It'd take five years.

I played GS a while back. AFIAK you cannot get the rebel dreadnaught, confed battleship, or confed carrier. You can get every other ship of the governments though.
The replicon mission is very rare (1%), but judging from the resources, is cool. I gave up waiting for the DDT and replicons and took the Astex missions to smash them both.
