Hey guys, have you ever wanted EV for the PC? Well, my friend does, so i would like the help of anyone who wants to. Just e-mail someone at amborsia sw about it. here's what my friend wrote to them:
All the Guys At Ambrosia: Through my journeys through the endless Internet, I have come upon a useful tool for the conversion of Macintosh games and applacations. It's called Carbonless Copies, from ARDI http://www.ardi.com . As I understand it, it allows programs that run on fine on it's Executor Mac emulator ( Escape Velocity does, as do EV Override, Swoop, and many other games) "to ship your Macintosh applications on Windows and Linux without rewriting them. It's quick, easy and inexpensive." As you are surely aware, there has been great demand for a Windows version of this game. I am one of the demandors. I have a PC running Windows and have played EV many a time. I found that it is a great game. I've downloaded emulators just to play it, but there are numerous problems. Jerky graphics, bad sound, all sorts of problems. And that's exactly what PC owners don't want when they play your software. They want to benefit from it as well. So give it a look. It's just an idea. Once again, the name is Carbonless Copies http://www.ardi.com/carbonless/
Please help.

The EV application, data files, and plug-in files use resource forks. Resource forks are a way of storing data more efficently by categorizing it. Windows not only doesn't have resource forks, but will delete any resource forks it sees.

If you read the site carefully, you'll see that the "Carbonless Copies" service is little more than a built-in copy of the Executor emulator for your application. If EV doesn't run satisfactorily under Executor, this won't change it. In addition, the program only supports 68K code, which means that Carbon is therefore not supported, and Ambrosia would have to continue developing seperate Classic versions of EV.

Which means nothing. Windows has it's own way of storing information, else it would be worse than it already is. EV data files could be adapted for Windows, but I really don't think it's worth ASW's time, effort, or money.

Hence why mcb hasn't done it yet.

Fine, mince my words (yes, my words, spoken by me in an email to the highe exalted Tasuki).
It was an idea. And if I have to say that all OSs are equal yet different one more time I'll blow my stack.
And if Ambrosia doesn't want to spend the time porting the game, others will. If any of you go into the EV FAQ and look at the comments below the thingy that says "Will EV ever be ported yada yada", you will see many volunteers willing to do the job free!
So think about it.

Why would I buy a Mac? I already have 2 Windows 98 and 1 Windows 2000 PCs. That's plenty for me.
But I do admit that a Mac wouldn't be that low on my "wish list" (if I ever made one up). They are great machines. But you know philosiphy: "all are equal, yet different"
