REBEL DESTROYER! They can beat Corvettes, Kestrels, Frigates, and just about any other light capital ship! They rock!

Why, (url="http://"http://www.meowx.com")www.meowx.com(/url), of course. It's the Quantumire Trilogy, btw, and more is in the works even as we speak...
And I have to agree on the Rebel Destroyer. Especially in Galactic Scourge.

I like the Corvette because it's a challenge to fly one and win missions.

I believe that the Activated Devastator from the Quantumire Trilogy is the best light cruiser. Why? Well it has an awesome complement of up close weaponry, and that is the way I like to fight. It incudes(after upgraded) 5 chain plasmas, 3 flame throwers, a Devastator Beam, and all the little stuff like missle jammer,IFF, etc. Besides all of its offensive weaponry it has an organic upgrade, which not only gives it a cool look, but makes sheild recharge so fast it is almost impossible to kill.
Why the heck did you revive this?

Wow, a year old thread. You don't see that everyday.
The ElGuapo7 Modified Corvette is the best, most versatile ship.
The Kestrel is too slow for most rush missions.
And a prperly outfitted Corvette can bean ANYTHING that flies.
I've even whacked an Alien Fighter in a Corvette.

As I said 12 months ago on this topic, the Rebel Destroyer is an excellent light capital ship. It has tons of weapons, lots of shielding, and plenty of room for expansion. Besides, it looks cool.

I agree, but the ship I liked best was the Raven from some plug or another, I could probably find out and say but whatever. It was like a kestral except larger and a lot more expensive and powerful. I would still call it a light capital ship since the Confed Cruiser could still beat it up most of the time (until I decked it out with upgrades and ran circles arround them literally, although it wasn't cheap and I had almost no room left for missiles).

That's another good thing about all Rebel ships; speed. All Confed ships turn and maneuver like rocks.
Rebel Destoyer why because Rebels Rule there ships are a lot faster. Confeds ships are really slow and well slow.
Another reason for why the Rebel Destroyer helps the Rebels so much is because you can easily mass produce them, and since they can beat the most common Confed ship the frigate, the Rebels can easily outnumber, outgun, and outman their foe.
Originally posted by yourmonkey: **For those of you telling us the Rebel Destroyer is the best light capital ship, I don't seem to understand your reasons (and you don't give many). When put in comparison to the Confed Frigate, it may seem equal, but those slight differences are win/lose in a battle situation.
I like the Rebel Destroyer. The Kestrel is nice but way overpriced. The Confed Frigate is too slow for its class. The frigate has 50 points more shields, but all of its other stats are inferior to the Destroyer.
The frigate's three jump range is rediculous. The Destroyer can mount 4 turrets vs 3 for the frigate. The frigate can mount 6 forward guns vs 5 for the destroyer, but the frigate's poor turning reduces their effectiveness. If you strip all of the weapons off of both ships, and apply as many mass expansions as possible, the Destroyer has more space.
The computer destroyer loses to the computer frigate because the computer fights stupidly. The destroyer pilot should use his speed and turning advantage to circle around behind the frigate, not fly down its throat... repeatedly.

Well said magicianeer. However, the reason the Rebel Destroyer wins against the frigate is because the destroyer charges it. And not only that, the Rebel destroyer doesn't loose much against frigates (it only looses when the frigate gets help).
Another reason the Rebel Destroyer wins against the Confed Frigate is that it always unloads all of its torpedoes really fast, while the Confed frigate doesn't.

I think you are talking about the Condor from Escape Velocity Game Expander. A larger version of the Kestrel, blue in color and pure death to its enemies. It came equipped with three Century fighters, which I often sent out to do the dirty work for me (their energy weapons were tough on larger foes in close combat). And yet, as you mentioned, the Condor wasn't so overpowerful that it unbalanced the game. That's good planning on the part of the plug writer.

Your assessment was dead on, magicianeer, except for this. I set up a combat scenario today—a single Confed Frigate against a lone Rebel Destroyer—and ran it twenty-five times. And the destroyer won twenty-five times! As a loyal citizen of the Confederation, I was somewhat distressed
The destroyer does run head on into the frigate, but it enjoys both an offensive advantage (unloading all its torpedoes immediately, as Captain Carnotaur pointed out) and a defensive edge (a much quicker shield recharge rate). The frigate does have a slim edge in shield strength at the outset, but that doesn't seem to help it much.
Can anyone explain why one ship may fire torpedoes (or any particular weapon) earlier in combat than an enemy equipped with the same weapon (assuming that the AI and other aspects are all equal)? I don't get it.
My favorite Light Capital ship is the Corvette. "What?" you may say "That ship is worthless!" Not to me it ain't. You just upgrade speed and rotation, get proton cannons and a few torpedoes, and you can kill a HUGE amount of other light capitals. "How?" you ask.
My strategy is to engage the enemy first, then RUN! You fly circles around them until they run out of missiles and torpedoes, then zoom in on them while autopiloting at a fair distance to your side so that they misfire heavy rocket and javelins. Make sure to move slowly AWAY from them while firing torpedoes. The velocity makes it so that they are moving forward taking your proton bolts while you are not suffering damage.

I like the Kestrel and the Corvette. The corvette is much nicer to fly, and the kestrel takes three days between systems, which is really annoying. Having an afterburner and a bit of fuel makes the kestrel more nimble in a fight though, and the lightnings just make it too powerful for me not to choose it.

It's because the Confeds are stupid! Bwa ha ha!
Just kidding.
Anway, I really don't know why the Rebel destroyer wins so much, but I do know one thing: The Rebel destroyer carries 12 torpdoes to the Confed Frigates 6 (and not only that, but the frigate has less of every type of ammo compared to the Rebel destroyer). As you can see, the Rebel destroyer has more firepower, and it uses that firepower to destroy Confed frigates constantly.
I like the looks of the frigate more, but if I had to choose a favorite light capitol ship (as the poll title would suggest) i'd have to choose the Destroyer.
