Otherwise, EV. It has a more finished, complete feel to it. Everything is though out, and there are more storylines. It is nice that EVO has a storyline that actually affects the game, but it ends too quickly.
Another thing is, EVO has a monstrous universe that is very difficult to deal with - a simple cargo mission can take a half an hour! What's more, the huge differences in technologies forces you to pretty much overhaul your ship every time you enter a different area. In theory this actually sounds cool, but in reality I found it a pain in the neck. Another thing, this huge universe has what can only be described as 'useless' planets - multiple planets with basically no description or features to distinguish them. On the other hand EV has a large enough galaxy for plenty of variety, but not so large as to where you can't become familiar with it, or feel at home in. In a way that, and the whole Rebels/Confeds thing, makes it more compelling. Witness the amount of plug-ins for EV that are based in the same universe (most of them) whereas the majority of plugs for EVO simply go and create a whole new world......

This is basically the problems I had with EVO in a nutshell...I think the cargo issue could have been resolved if certain cargo missions were limited to a certain sector in space, for example, divided by government. EVGE did a good job of this by creating special cargo missions for each government: Orion, Pirate, and Polaris...but since EVGE (IMO) is one of the greatest plugins ever created, I guess it's only natural...

Why the hell are we debating? With no EV, there'd be no EVO. EVO's engine is much more advanced though. I don't see why it could matter so much.

Depends if you have a PPC basec computer or not.
I have a LC 580 (68k) and EVO is intolerably slow.

EV had better Graphics, but overall EVO is better, you mentioned missiles, the bad thing about EV was, other than decoy flares, the missiles always worked, I thought this made the game too easy in some ways and too hard earlier on in the game. The missiles sucked, then again it's the other extreme in EVO because other than Hunter Missiles, they never seem to hit their targets.

Yeah? Well I have a Performa 630 (68k) with the same powere as an LC 580, but EVO plays like a dream, until you have to do that Free Huron mission with all the pirates in and Huroners, then it begins to jerk a bit, but I just run it at 175% speed, otherwise using the shuttlecraft makes me punch the walls. EV is better. EV rules. It takes skill to avoid missiles and torpedoes, the effects do not sound like they were sampled from a kid's toy spaceship with 'real sound' (the effects on EVO were terrible), the ships are better designed and better looking in EV, and although the universe in EV is smaller, lets face it... EVO just had a load of missions that were identical, just with the sides changed, so that you had Zidagar vs. Azdgari, same as UE vs. Voinian, Emalghia vs. Voinian and the rest. You just felt 'Oh well, another "go out and destroy those warships" mission... sod that, I'm going back on EV'. So what if EVO had a better engine? I didn't notice anything, and at standard speed (100%) EV runs at the correct speed, but on EVO, 100% speed is soooooooo slooooooow. So, EV ROCKS! (Chalk up another one for the original) But, EV3 is gonna be kickass, as long as the ships and weapons are cool. All I need now is a G4 Macintosh. Right... I'm off to rob a bank.

So far, all I've heard is that "EVO is too big" or "I don't have enough patience for it!" What does that say about you guys? For one thing, it says that you are caught up in the past, and far too simple minded. If flying around in the classic EV universe still is fun for you after all this time, you probably need to get out more. I'm serious.
And if EVO is too big for the more simple minded, you'll be frightened to see EV3.... It'll kick some ass, though.
_bomb
A large universe can be quite enticing IF you have a compelling storyline. EVO simply didn't have the story neccesary to make the universe feel like a comfortable place the way EV did. EVO was sterile. Ditto for the patience bit.

Well, I like that EVO is too big to memorize. I mean: If there were eight cultures (Human, Miranu, Igadzra, Zidagar, Azdgari, Strandless, Voinians, Emalgha) that had the ability to travel faster than light, there would be too many planets and star-systems to memorize. And, like it or not, EV3 is going to be bigger than EVO.
I like the storylines of EVO, too. I can't wait for the next game to come out.

Just wondering how on earth anyone could ever prove which is better. Opinions differ under different societies, social settings, and especially ship preferences! Frankly, the Kestrel is an amazing ship, but a phreaked out Igazra toasts most anything with a hyperdrive.
They both rock as far as shareware goes, and frankly, they are better than many games on the shelves of CompUSA or other retailers. Like what you like, hate what you hate, but don't bother to prove someone wrong on which game is better.

Frankly, when I played EVO, I got a bit homesick from EV, so I made a plug that allowed me to buy any of the Rebel ships (at the correct prices of course, and I had to put in the old outfits, but I found it rather nice). So, Although I like EVO, I find the storyline a bit Tedious. Some people might like it big, I prefer it smaller, and to be honest I found the original to be a better experience altogether. For once, a sequel that doesn't surpass the original.
I'm getting pretty tired of hearing the "EV vs. EVO" fight. EVO is better! Now stop posting topics like this, they have been done 7 times before...

people like u are the reason there are still topics like this. DON'T KEEP THE FIRE GOING!!! You think its better, ok, dont bother to share your opinion. The more you SHARE YOURS, THE MORE OTHER PEOPLE WILL SHARE THEIRS. Hence a topic is formed. You guys are the reason there are posts like this. Listen to The Macology.com Team, they had the right idea, you cant prove which is better, so DONT SHARE YOUR OPINIONS.
Really though I don't wee why so many people have problems with topics being covered multiple times. Just stop reading it if you don't think there is any point to it. Some people just want to talk about these kinds of things and no one shoud begrudge them that. Oh, and EV could kick EVO's a•• any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
EV...EVO's ships look really bad and Ev ships look cool.

GETTING BUTT KICKED, I agree with you that EVO's ships look blocky and many of them look like they have been done in KidPix.

Blocky...HA!
Compare shuttles...
EVO ships are far superior detail wise...but the simplicity of EV ships make them more fun...and looks aren't everything...

How about playing both abd judging by yourself.
This reminds me of the "which is better, Goldeneye 007 or Perfect Dark" argument, but I think EVO because its bigger, has larger plots, better ships and looks great with MAGMA.
