REbels and Confeds

Would someone please tell me how to get the confed ships and the mission which allows you to get the rebel ships.

I won't answer this question directly - it ruins the game. You COULD do one thing, however. Check the message archives. I won't go any further than that. I will tell you, however, that you will either side with the Confeds (pfft) or the Rebels depending on which courier mission you take. Once you take that mission and complete it, you will be a sympathizer with one side and will NOT be able to get the key missions where you gain outfits, ships, etc.
