Where, O where?

Does anyone know where the beloved BB88's Shipyard has disappeared to? Or, has he set up shop under some other name? Oh, I am so confused!

Also, what would you recommend for a good 3D rendering engine (preferrably freeware or shareware). I want to make a few ship pics for my EV plugin, and being on a VERY limited budget I can't buy one of those big, fancy ones!
