So you've made a Plugin...

So you've worked long and hard on a plugin for Escape Velocity or EV Override -- the blood, sweat, and tears that have made it a reality weren't for naught.

You've tested the plugin, checked the grammar/spelling, and have it ready to go. How do you make sure it gets widespread exposure? Since the official EV/EVO web sites are the most-visited Escape Velocity and EV Override resources on the 'net, it makes sense to make your plugin known there.

I suggest you take the following steps:

  1. If the plugin has it's own web site, add a link to it on the EV or EVO web links pages:

EVO: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/evo/weblinks.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS...o/weblinks.html(/url)
EV: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/ev/weblinks.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS...v/weblinks.html(/url)

  1. Upload the plugin, along with a good description, to the main EV or EVO Add On Files archive:

EVO: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/evo/addons.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS...evo/addons.html(/url)
EV: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/ev/addons.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS.../ev/addons.html(/url)

  1. Post a message to the EV/EVO Newswire announcing the release of the plugin:

EV/EVO: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/evo/newswire.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS...o/newswire.html(/url)

  1. If there is a fictional back-story to your plugin, post it to the EV/EVO Chronicles (and have the story mention where they can get the plugin in the header and footer of the story):

EV/EVO: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/evo/chronicles.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS...chronicles.html(/url)

  1. Post a message on the official EV or EVO web boards announcing the release as well (you can use the same text that you used to post to the Newswire):

EVO: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/evo/webboard.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS...o/webboard.html(/url)
EV: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/ev/webboard.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS...v/webboard.html(/url)

If you take these steps, you'll ensure that your plugin reaches the widest possible audience, which is the goal, after all.

I think posting it to the newswire is sufficient. =P

I take it that the kinks in the upload feature at the add-on page have been ironed out?

No, it isn't -- you should definitely upload the plugin to the archives as well.

Yes, the kinks (to my knowledge) have been worked out.

So what is the procedure. Should the files be .sit.bin, .sit, .sit.hqx. If you upload a file with the same name as an existing plugin what happens, etc?

Thanks! This will certainly help me when I publish my next plug-in.
