This is just my opinion, but I think speed and turning and accel are secondary to other stats like space and shields. The upgrades for speed are way more equalizing than the offense/defense upgrades. Plus if your ship's too fast, your turrets screw up. (or maybe they don't anymore. haven't played in a while.)

The next update will fix the turrets problem, it should be out very soon, MCB is done, they are doing final testing, then we may get it.
I prefer speed over shields and strong armor, because if you go faster than most weapons, they can't EVER hit you. So it makes shields unneeded in some cases.

I prefer to have both speed and power. In the basic game, I think the best combination is a fully upgraded Rebel Cruiser. It can be fast enough to avoid missiles and can carry enough ammo to take out anything.

Agreed with the Rebel cruiser being great. I have to say that strength is usless when you don't have the speed to utilize it. Speed is likewise useless (except for running) unless you have the power to back it up. Just my opinion.

I mean when purchasing a ship, space and shield/armor strength are my main requirements. Once you buy the ship, deck it out with speed upgrades and you've go one hell of a ship.

I highly prefer shields, armor, weapons, and space over speed and maneuverability. When I was playing EV I bought myself an Argosy, upgraded it with a RCS upgrade and several other upgrades for engines, and I could out-maneuver a Corvette! Now even though I prefer shields and armor, there is one exception, the Rebel Destroyer. In that ship you get excellent speed and maneuverability, and excellent weapons and armor in one ship! That is why the Rebel destroyer is one of my favorite ships in EV.
I believe that everything counts. You wanna buy a ship with good everything. In EV, if you have enough credits to buy a Kestrel, don't go wastin' your money on a Defender. Yeah, it's a **** load faster, but you can upgrade a Kestrel. I did and I can out run missiles easily.
Hey Chamrin, when you make your plug, be sure to add a mass (Around 15 to 30 tons) to agility upgrades, that tends to make people respect combat speed, for when it only costs 200k two double the tactical speed of a Cruiser, you know somethings going awry. BTW, this is is adamp from #ev

Ok, anyone like the Pale plug? Well, if anyone doubts the advantage of tactical speed, it offers many good examples. The Hunter Battleship has a speed of 80, and has a tendancy to get bruised by torpedoes before it gets into range to unleash its 12 turbolasers on a target ;). However, the SDB, albeit weak in the arena of shields and armor, can easily outmanuever other capital ships, and pound them with close range weapons fire. (Pale has awesome close range weapons :p)
