invisible background

How do I make an invisible background for an image?
For example, if Mr. Bob had an image that said "bob" in red letters, but it had a black background, so he couldn't put it on his website that had blue and purple poka dots because there would be black behind the "bob" instead of poka dots, what would he do?
I've got photoshop, and I know there's gotta be a way to do this.

I use GifBuilder; it is the absolute best program for animating GIF files. Also, you can set a background image for a graphic file, which is what you want to do; look on download.com for the program. If you can't find it anywhere, email me, I can send you my copy.

Okay, I've already got GIF Builder, I used it to make some banners on my starcraft tournament website. So I'll try to see if I can get an invisible background, thanks for the help.

What you want is to save as a transparent GIF. You indicate one color as transparent, and you won't see it when you include in a web page.

I did that in Graphic Converter, I made black indicated transparent, and saved it, but when I load it to a website, it comes out black anyways.

You need to save it as an 89a GIF for transperency to work.

Yup, 89a gif is what you want to save it as. Which can be done in GifBuilder.

That is a good example of the Great Circle of the EV Board. šŸ™‚
