I've heard about this manuever in both games, EV and EVO. Either it was before I visited the board, or it was discussed in my absence. Whichever the reason why I missed it, can someone tell me what it is? Even, though I am doing well in EVO with my UE Cruiser, a few new manuevers wouldn't hurt... although I doubt the sluggish UE Cruiser could accomplish much. Still, it would be nice to have a few more manuevering tactics with me. Anyone with info, please tell.

ok. this, along with the diagonal trick...(yeah...cool) are fairly well known.
the monty python: get ahead of the ship whose ass you are going to kick. then turn around, and slow down a little. go slightly slower than the other ship, so it can catch up, then, turn around to forward again, and match speed with yo' target. then, get in turret/gun range, and fire away at the guy. if he stays right at the range of your guns, he won't fire, and wouldn't hit ya anyway (just yet...) this takes a while to get down, but in a ship like the UE cruiser, you're screwed on this one...
the other (yet unnamed) trick:
I don't know of a name for this, so it's time for one. post some replies!
simply travel around the map diagonally, you will go faster, and sometimes be able to outrun weapons, and other ships. turning while accelerating can also get an extra boost, but this too takes some skill.
there is an explanation for this, and i know it. but i am too tired right now. maybe later...

"IT'S GI-GUNDO!
Sadly, it'll be useless in EVO 1.0.2 because AI ships'll be able to have afterburners. Wait, this's the EV board!

Hey, I've actually done that before! I do that trick all the time. I learned it on my own, it's what I used to destroy the Dreadnought in EVO, flying backwards is what I called it. So I knew it all along...interesting. Well, now I know that it has another name, I guess I'll use this name when refering to it. Thanks.
Or maybe it's just instinct. I was using the so-called Monty Python maneuver long before i knew of EV.com. It's handy.

Same here. And, it is possible to do this trick in a UE Cruiser. You can use it on Voinian ships, they are also slow. Just watch out for the fighters from the cruisers, they're nasty little fighters, slow, but powerful.
i thought that monty python maneuver was going head on at the ship and then turning around and firing at it again...i made up a handy maneuver that i call "charlie brown" basically, find a nice slow ship and fly in circles around it until it dies. this take a lot of skill but it works
