Is this with a plug-in or in the standard game?
You might try giving EV more memory, though lack of memory usually causes a different ship to appear.
My psychic powers tell me you recently tested a plug-in with unique ships in it. My powers also tell me that after you finished the plug, you removed it, and did not sell your unique ship before removing said plug. You tried to keep on using the same pilot file because you liked the combat rating or the money. But that won't work. You have to get an ordinary ship first before ditching the plug. Then everything will be normal. So: put your plug back in and do what I said.
Trust me. My work with the Triumvirate plug-testing group has proven this many times.
