No more tracing logs!
NOTE: I'm using the Windows version of Uplink for this demo. Mac users can also do this, as long as they have RedshirtX and a hex editor.
STUFF YOU NEED (Real Life):
Redshirt.exe/RedshirtX Hex Editor with find feature
In Uplink:
Fast Gateway/Modem (>400GHz/>4Gq) ~30 links from InterNIC
Highest version of these programs (The Uplink Internal Services Machine traces very fast)
Log_Deleter (4.0) Decypher (3.0) Decrypter (7.0) Password_Breaker Proxy_Bypass (5.0) Monitor_Bypass (5.0) Firewall_Bypass (5.0) IP_Lookup Connection Analyzer HUD Trace_Tracker 4.0 (Optional)
INSTRUCTIONS: 1.Connect to the Uplink Internal Services Machine (At least 30 bounces for 400GHz Gateway, starting with InterNIC.)
2.Open the Connection Analyzer HUD and bypass the proxy, monitor and firewall. The trace will start. Also use the trace tracker if you have it.
3. Open Password_Breaker and crack the admin password, then select "Admin" in the main menu.
4. Use the Decypher on the string of numbers and give it >75% of CPU time. Do it fast!
5. Access the fileserver and copy all the Uplink agent files. Don't forget the program! Depending on conditions, you can copy 2 files before the trace is almost complete. Disconnect and repeat steps 1-5.
6. When all the agent files have been copied, go to InterNIC and delete all the logs. Uplink will try to trace you!
7. Use Decrypter to decrypt all the .dat files.
8. Wait for the dead agent to send his mail. Then open the agent list program and look for his alias. In the example below, "Iceman" is James Banard.
9.Quit Uplink and un-redshirt a copy of your .usr file. Open it in your hex editor. Open your find dialog box.
10. Search for the ASCII string "<Dead Agent>'s Personal Computer" (Case matters!) There should be only 1 match. In the example below, I search for "James Banard's Personal Computer".
11.When the editor has found it, scroll up a little and note the IP address. In my instance it is 524.973.31.228.
12. Fire up Uplink and enter the IP into the IP_Lookup box. A link should be added.
13. Connect to the IP address. Above the login box should be a message "Speak friend, and enter." The password for it is "MySocratesNote".
14. Click "Filez".
15. It should be obvious from now...
... That's all folks!
P.S- Seems that our President is an Uplink agent!
Very nice. Shame I don't have Hex Editor or Redshirt. Where do you get them from?
What the heck is RevelationCore??
Not sure I'd call that easier, but whatever floats yer boat ;).
Anyway, RedshirtX is available on the Uplink add-ons page. A hex editor is easy enough to find on online. One that popped up pretty quick on versiontracker was HexEdit. I used a much earlier version way back in the day, but apparently it's for OS X now as well as classic.
