MyDoom

Street justice, internet style.

You don't often see a worm like MyDoom. Usually the targets of DDOS attacks are more about general destructiveness or exploiting a weakness. This time it's downright political. SCO Group was booted off of the 'net.

So I ask you, fellow simulated hackers, are things becoming more like Uplink? Are corporate wars being fought in the secret world of hacking internet worms?

And let's be honest. Who thinks SCO got what it deserved for suing Linux left and right?

I've heard that MyDoom is more a spy than a mean of kicking SCO out of the 'net.
However, everything else I've found about SCO is that they've been trying to get full control over Linux.
I've also found that all of their proof are fake (according to a Google search). Sound like they don't have much time left before losing the trial... and money. Lots of money.

Don't like to be much wars these times. 😉
I don't think either that the corp are too dependent on the internet to justify large scale attacks.

However, who know if the said corporations won't become dependent over the internet....

Raise hand

If it's really an attack against them, of course.
They had to be told that they made a really bad decision, even if I think such attack is a bit brutal and may not open their eyes.
We'll see what will happen in the future, anyway. 🙂

Well, I find it odd that I keep hearing about this "created back door" that the worm rips open, with the SCO denial-of-service attacks likely being some sort of diversion ploy. It's also odd that it doesn't attack Macintosh OS's, either :).

I don't think we'll know the true motives behind this one anytime soon, either. Anyone smart enough to make such a malicious program would likely be wise enough to know that Linux is way too spread-out and non-owned to really be owned by anyone in particular, via patent or copyright or court order.

I guess we'll know more about the non-simulated-hacker person more when the 'standby' phase is activated sometime next week and twenty million computers have a big honkin' pop-up window blaring "WiND0z3 SuX0Rs!" or something.

As to the 'war' idea, I think that hackers aren't quite corporation-sponsored. They might get syndicate-sponsored first, though, which would make this sort of thing more of an organized-crime theater of operations. It'd be 'war' when we see Uncle Sam pointing at us saying "We want YOU to guard such-and-such LAN" and other posters saying things like "Stupid passwords sink networks"

(That might be a nice new thread to start... how to modernize the WWII slogans?)
