Panther OS X

Has anyone gotten the 1.3.2 version working under panther? I've played this game before on my *nix box and my old winblows box, and just jumped out of my skin when I heard it was for OS X now... But it keeps crashing >.< I'm running 10.3.1 OS X, 640MB RAM, G4 800MHz iBook... if anyone has any help or any tips/solutions, it would be great if you could post them! If you need any more information as far as my system specs/software/etc, no problem there either.

I'm having a similar problem. I have Uplink 1.3.2 running on a dual 2ghz Powermac G5 with os 10.3.2. The uplink icon bounces in the dock, then unexpectadly quits and asks if I want to send a bug report to Apple. I think that it might be a problem with Panther?

I agree. There was a similiar message on the board, and I've heard that some people have downgraded to 10.2 0_0. No thanks, heh. Exposé is just to nice to go back. Do you think there's anyway we can get an older version of Uplink??

Sure enough, it doesn't work for me either in 10.3. I've sent an email to the beta list. Hopefully the developers will get working on it. There's been other issues with ASW projects and Panther, so it should be a pretty easy fix in their libraries.

I'm running OS 10.3.2 with Uplink 1.3.2 and I do experience laggyness and occasional crashes. Though I think that I figured out how to prevent the crashes. When you play Uplink the game creates some sort of temporary file in the users directory (of the uplink folder) and if you open that window, or make it active the file deletes itself. I've found that by doing this the laggyness goes away, and it doesn't crash. I don't know what the file is, or what it's for, but by making it go away, it helps a lot. Anyway might help

Well for some reason mine won't start up anymore. I have no idea why. I'c reinstalled it and tried to get it to run, but I get nothing. I'm running it on 10.3.2, 700 mhz iMac, 712 mb ram. Any suggestioins??

The ASW libraries used by Uplink and several other of their games don't work with Panther. They've been updated, and the new version of Uplink should be out very soon.

I use Uplink 1.3.2 under Panther 10.3.2. I haven't had any problems in Uplink... actually, to be honest, I have rarely used it because of an "outdated license code" (had to wipe out my hard disk before installing Panther), but I can tell you that I can at least open Uplink and load a user file without problems.

Anyway, Panther evidently needs to have some bugs worked out. My games are having lots of problems they never had before, so I wouldn't be surprised if Uplink does too.

In reply to Gov. Phatt especially, try running Console (/Applications/Utilities/Console) before you run Uplink. When it doesn't run, check what messages Console generated; you can try and fix it if you know what's wrong, or you can email Apple/Ambrosia/whatever about the problem and include the error message Console gave. For everyone else, running console when you have problems helps, since it gives those who help you more of idea what's going on.

Ive had 1.3.2 working on Panther for a while now.

I DONT KNOW IF THIS IS a bug due to Panther but when i try to hack lan i cant...
a. see the back or reset buttons.
b. im not sure if on the description if you should see an ip in there too.
c. i cant even make a path from the router to the first hub because i dont know whats what.
4. i cannot connect to anything.
e. in the darwin mission i cant do squat in the LAN except probe and scan the system.
f. i cannot figure out how to beat the darwin mission. could you help me.

I think the problems you're having on the LAN are just inexperience, not bugs in the code. I'm not sure if this is the best thread to post it, though.
