Ok, here is how it goes. I have completed all the arunmmor storyline missions, and both of the special ones. I hacked banks and stole money that got me all the way to rank 4 (expert), how to I get to rank 3? 2? 1?! hacking banks dosn't seem to work...
------------------ Trust is a weakness -Officialy been waiting since may 9th for mac version uplink (Yess! It finally came)
3, 2, and 1 are the top ranks. You may need to hack a bank more than once to improve.
And as for the money, it'll work even if you just steal a single credit.
------------------ Maniak hacks like crazy!
No problem finding unlimited users. I happan to have hacked every banks admin and have the information listed for each and every account. (50+) Call me obsessive
Okay then.
backs away
I've been known to keep a few lists of accounts, etc. from time to time.

Ah. I was wondering about this. I, too, was at Expert, when I noticed the congrats emails stop showing up after bank hacks. I sort of assumed that the storyline missions brought you to TERMINAL, but I guess I'm wrong.
I guess I'll have to make the jump from stealing the vast majority of the money in the game to stealing, literally, all the money in the world. Slow work.
Still, it is pretty nice to have gotten 5 million credits by the 26th, a total of (less than) two days from the game start.
(Edit: Also, I'm so thorough I made a spreadsheet for hacked accounts, and a competitor flowchart for maximum stock market impact, when I make my move.)

Ah, yes. You truly are dedicated.
And as a reward, here are some smileys:
: How you felt while hacking that bank.
: How you felt after you successfully deleted logs in time.
: How you felt after you spent all that cash.
: How you felt after you were careless and forgot to delete your logs.
: How the FBI agent felt when you punched him in the face while he tried to get you handcuffed.

Ugggg... You mean stealing every credit from every other account in uplink? That IS SLOW work. You say you WERE at expert? Does that mean you know how to get even farther?
Whoa.
That should get you to Terminal in no time.
And not on the Modlink forums.
You sure? Lemme get out my spreadsheet...
"Bank IP: Acount #: Security Level: Acount Owner: Account Balance (current): Account Loan (current): Unusual Transfers (100,000+ or more): Hacking log (list of tranfers): Log modyfing:"
Not obsessive.

There is certainly a lot of cash out there. Let us know how much you get away with in total when you're done!
Oh yeah, and just a tip for multiple back transfers...
At each bank, decide on an account that's isn't yours to put all of the cash into from that bank. Once you've pooled all the cash into once account, transfer that sum into another account in another bank. That way you only have to delete transfer logs once when you finally stick the entire grand sum into one of your accounts. Just delete all of your logs at InterNIC.

Now that is handy. Do you still get as much Uplink rating increase as you would if you transfered all of the accounts to yours individually?
No, I'm still at Expert, although I guess I'll be spending a few days doing dozens of bank hacks.
And by the way, all I have on my spreadsheet are bank name (and IP), account number, password, and amount of cash. Everything else is pretty pointless, although I suppose loan info could be handy.
The trend I've noticed is that the game creates seven banks, each with about fifteen nonwealthy people (less than ten thousand credits each) and one rich person with between 300,000 and 1,300,000 credits. Now, an interesting, extremely irritating, and potentially devastating bug to your potential wealth is the fact that if you yourself create an account at a bank, or if the game creates a bank account for a mission, then all bank accounts with a higher account number than the newly created one are deleted from that bank, along with their money. However, if the game creates a "Our esteemed colleague wishes to make a donation" mission, then the money to be transfered is created with it. So, the moral of the story is: The added trace time made by creating accounts at the banks is not nearly worth the amount of money that is likely lost if you plan on hacking banks.
(Edit: very minor format fix.)

You probably get the same benefit, but I might be wrong. I don't think Uplink actually cares where you transfer money to. The hacking of bank itself could be enough. In any case, it is a very nice way to get a lot of cash with minimal risk. All of those tiny bank accounts suddenly (and obviously) add up to a lot.
I've never heard of that bug before. If it's true, that's pretty serious. In any case, I never leave any cash in those accounts anyway, since it's too easy to get confused and overdraw an empty account. I transfer to the main account as soon as possible.

Yeah. I wasn't referring so much to the money loss in self-created dummy accounts as to the fact that the rich person's account is (probably, depending on account number) lost forever. I have a non-board-posting buddy who has had the same problem.
Actually, I'm not sure if the bug can affect user-made accounts, although it would be a bit more obvious if it did.
From what I have heard in previous posts, you dont have to steal a set amount of cash. 1 credit per transfer should be enough. And besides, if you create on account, and there are about 8, the odds of you destroying the rich persons account is around 1 to 8. With 8 banks, the odds are you will lose one rich person. But, its not the money I need, just the actual hack.
Also, dont think I have gotten even close to filling in every spread sheet completely.

Yeah, you don't need to steal a lot of money. But the bug is not that you delete one account, it's that you delete all the accounts with a higher account number than the one just created. Which often destroys two-thirds of the total accounts at that bank. That equates to a lot of money. Besides, it's always nice to have millions of credits for a custom Gateway.
------------------
Here's what I did to get tons of money and terminal in about half an hour:
1. Get all equipment neccessary, such as a trinity with best hardware and software. (I usually do this by robbing a bank the hard way, with nothing but a proxy disable, the gateway you start off with, and a little help from a "trace a recent balance transfer" mission.) You can do it however you feel like it.
2. Find a bank through InterNIC. (search for "bank") Of course, if you already know of one that is un-hacked, you can use that, too.
3. Create an account on that bank to transfer all of that banks money to. PLEASE NOTE: You do not need to transfer your money to your original Uplink account. Many people seem to think you do. I have at least 6 different bank accounts on all my files. If you want to pay for something using another account, simply make sure it is highlighted when you buy whatever it is. The same works for recieving payment. You don't need to cover the tracks when you spend/recieve money from these accounts, as the money in them appears legit.
4. Find the bank's public access server. (search for the bank's company's name)
5. Get the Admin's phone number and call him up. Record his voice and keep it ready.
6. Hack into bank, bouncing through lots of stuff, using InterNIC as your first bounce. (I usually use at least 10, and much more if I don't have legitimate or temporary user access on them) Save the connection, you're going to be using it several times.
7. Get into the admin account, and copy down all account numbers. (You don't need the passwords since they won't be remembered unless you use the cracker, and it's faster anyway. Plus you can't get caught for it as long as you use a moniter bypass.) Then pull out and cover your tracks before the fun part begins.
8. Hack back in, go to the first account on your list of accounts. Hack into it, take out the maximum loan, and transfer all their money to your account on that bank. (As I said before, you don't need to transfer it to any other account, just leave it in the bank. It is faster, safer, and easier that way.)
9. Delete the transfer statements of your previous actions. (Don't log out of the bank, just switch accounts.)
10. Repeat steps 8 - 9 over an over untill you wipe the bank clean. I usually pull out to erase my logs on InterNIC after every 4 accounts that I rob. (One time a bank's passive caught me while I was still logged into the bank. but doing this prevents that.)
11. Repeat steps 2 - 10 until the desired amount of money is aquired, or the desired Uplink rating has been achieved. (once you get up around Expert, you have to rob around 4 accounts to level up, but with this method, it happens very quick.)
I hope that helps.

Sounds about right.
Edit: Of course, if you are wary of the bug I ran into, just use a random account instead of one that you created. Then do a typical hack to steal all of that account's money. I'm paraphrasing mrxak a bit, I guess.
Yup. That's the way to do it.
